Baby name Felix thoughts

Do you like the boy name Felix?

It first reminded me of the cat food brand! But I am now starting to like it. It is quite a traditional name but the cat food brand might have ruined it maybe? What are your thoughts in 2025?

I don’t like it that much, but it’s OK. For me, it’s one of those currently trendy middle class options like Jasper and Luca. Also makes me think of cats.

Moreteaandchocolate · 24/03/2025 21:06

I like it! Any cat associations will fade as soon as people meet someone called Felix.

Scutterbug · 24/03/2025 21:08

I really like it. It was on my list 20 odd years ago when I had my lot!

SpottedDonkey · 24/03/2025 21:08

It’s a yes from me.

89redballoons · 24/03/2025 21:45

I do like the name, but I feel it's a little bit aspirational in its meaning (Latin for happy/lucky). What if he wasn't happy all the time? But I guess that's the same for all virtue names.

dijonketchup · 24/03/2025 21:47

LOVE it, go for it OP

haappyy · 24/03/2025 22:20

I say YES because my son is 6 and called Felix. He thinks it's funny about the cat food. He is the only one at his school called Felix. DH suggested it and I fell in love immediately.
I have had comments about it being a cat name but honestly I love it too much to care!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 24/03/2025 22:56

I like it.
I have a cat, and she does eat Felix cat food, but I don't see why the cat food should be a problem.
I know a 10 year old and a 16 year old called Felix, and went to school with one. It's a good name. Why wouldn't you want a name that means "Happy"?

LilyJosephine · 25/03/2025 00:18

Lovely. I first meet one about 40 years ago when it was considered fairly unusual (his siblings also had uncommon names), despite pop culture references like the James Bond character - but its so much more widely used now that I think it’s lost some of the cat associations. Yet because of the “X” ending it still has a slightly quirky feel, which I like.

HugoYorway · 25/03/2025 17:46

We liked César.

I like it, not many here in the NW. Only cat owners will associate with cat food, I don’t as never had cats.

Chuchoter · 25/03/2025 20:07

Lovely name.

HugoYorway · 25/03/2025 21:27

I know a few Felixes, from pre-cat owning days, and I always thought of cats.

doeandfawn · 31/03/2025 22:10

Biased as we have a Felix but I think it’s a great name! It hits a lot of the sweet spots (soft yet strong, nice meaning, uses that x, everyone knows how to spell and say it, travels well, numerous nicknames, etc.) and has that modern yet classic feel. It really suits our little one and each little one I’ve seen with it.

I’ve only had one person mention the cat association to my face. It is worth mentioning that as others have said, it’s definitely having a bit of a moment right now. I know of 2 other babies with the name and go to comparatively few parent and baby things. On the plus side, it’s clear more people think “wow cute name” than “wow cat food” first and foremost as a result.

HugoYorway · 01/04/2025 07:57

My cat would say 'Blimey, she's in a good mood today'.

Riverswims · 01/04/2025 08:20

Lovely strong boy’s/man’s name and really if a cute little cat is the worst association with it then 🤷🏽‍♀️

WeNeverGoOutOfStyle · 01/04/2025 08:25

I like the name but instantly think of cat food.
