Isobel April or Isla

Due a girl soon and we keep going round in circles.. we love all three of these but concerns are:

Isobel - we love this spelling as Scottish on both sides but we live in England, will it forever be spelt differently by people?

April - she is likely to be born this month.. does it matter?

Isla - there are a few around us and know it is probably the more common / popular of the three. Not necessarily a bad thing I guess.

What does everyone prefer? Any girl names along similar lines?

In my head I feel like I say Isobel and Isabel differently but in practice not sure it sounds that different when I actually say it out loud.

On the April month thing.. I was thinking about the name June and honestly wouldn't expect one to be born then.. is it because April isn't such an established name and is a month first and foremost 🧐

I would expect June to be born in June too sorry - the only June I know is!
I have a friend called Summer who’s birthday is in March and she is always having to explain that her parents just liked the name, no she wasn’t born in Summer, no she wasn’t premature etc

If born in April, I like April..
April Kathleen
April Valentina
April Isobel

If born in March ..
Isla Isobel
Isobel Tess

Isla is my favourite

EmmaStone · 19/03/2025 16:30

I have a grown up Isobel, yes people have spelt it wrong over the years, but it's never bothered her. She's always been an Isobel, some friends have called her Izzy (we call her Is), but she's pretty chill. Obviously it's my favourite in your list, as is the spelling.

April & Isla are also both very pretty names, but I think I'd want April born in April...

KayEmAy · 19/03/2025 17:07

Love the spelling of Isobel, I also really like Isla. In fact I actually think Isobel Isla would be pretty together.

Emanwenym · 19/03/2025 17:15

It's a tongue-twister.

FawnDrench · 19/03/2025 18:24

Isla

Hohofortherobbers · 19/03/2025 19:43

Came on to say Avril too

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 19/03/2025 20:30

I like Isobel and April (but only if she is born in April!)

yikesanotherbooboo · 19/03/2025 20:33

I love Isobel and have one. I’m not so much a fan of the other two but do think April makes a nice middle name .

Jamclag · 19/03/2025 22:49

Isobel wins hands down and a lovely spelling too - Bel(le) is very sweet for short.

Boredofbeinganadult · 19/03/2025 22:56

Isla ❤️

tellmesomethingtrue · 19/03/2025 22:57

Isla is super common and a stupid name because why is there an ‘s’?

Emanwenym · 20/03/2025 07:48

Why is it stupid @tellmesomethingtrue ? Island and isle have an s in them.
I think it's a pretty name.

Weird logic. Why does Thomas have an “h” in English?

Mailys · 20/03/2025 09:32

April! Lovely lovely name, I wanted it for our last baby but we had a boy 😊

thatsfunnybecause · 20/03/2025 10:03

Isobel will be Izzy of Bella which I don’t like
if you hold on till April that’s my favourite but you could use it anyway if you love it
Isla is lovely but common

CherryPinkAppleBlossomWhite · 20/03/2025 10:10

I like April the best, it's lovely. The only April I know was born in September.

MontanaPink · 20/03/2025 10:11

April is lovely!

CompactMirror · 20/03/2025 10:17

Thanks all, so difficult to choose!! V likely to be born March which is my only question mark over April but everyone seems to be split on that.. I’m starting to think it’s not that much of a big deal.

Having a think about whether we like Izzy as I think it’s inevitable with Isobel really isn’t it..

Isobel

Amyjade2022 · 21/03/2025 11:57

Biased because I have an Isla myself but I just adore then name it is beautiful!!
I had the same worry when I was naming her that it was too popular but actually once she was born and we shared it with people, most said they’d never met an Isla before! She’s almost 3 now and in nursery I’ve only come across one other Isla in that time.

Otherwise Isobel is lovely too and that is my preferred spelling

Weird logic. Why does Thomas have an “h” in English?

The ‘h’ sound isn’t actually silent.

‘T’ - ‘hom’- ‘as’

the ‘h’ sound forms part of the pronunciation so it’s not weird logic

I think it's a pretty name.

Yes and those words are stupid too. I would say her name as ‘is’ - ‘la’
