Hi there,

I'm due soon for DS2 and need a help to choose the name!
DS1 is Tristan and we want another classical and masculine name goes well with it.
Few of DH favourite names are Scandinavian. We don't have Scandinavian backgrounds though we live in Scotland, is that ok?
One more concern is if some of them are too masculine name for potential bullies as I'm quite short & skinny so the DS2 likely to be too.

This is the short list.
Edward
Leon
Marius
Thorfinn
Magnus
Lysander

How do you feel about these names? Any other suggestions?

I see “classical and masculine” and my mind goes straight to Alexander, which I think is much more wearable than Lysander. Mind you, I did meet a tiny baby Tiberius recently so I guess it’s all a question of perspective.

Edward is nice (and Edmund more interesting to me) but you can’t use Ned in Scotland where it has a nasty slang meaning.

Magnus is pretty cool! Thorfinn too Viking. Leon is OK but Marius I don’t care for.

Others have made great suggestions. I think Caspar, Rupert, Quentin, Sebastian, Laurence, Alastair or Rory could all go well with Tristan, though not all are my cup of tea. (I’d pick Laurence!).

Tristan isn’t particular masculine.

Out of your shortlist, I’d go for Edward, though I do like Magnus. None of the others. Leon is a bit odd in your list. It has a very different vibe to the rest. Leo would fit better.

Have you considered Alexander, the epitome of classical and masculine, to me?

Tristan & Hugo
Tristan & Murdo
Tristan & Angus

Some people are very rude, read the OP properly and note that she's not asking for opinions on Tristan, her first son is already called Tristan, so fair enough saying it's not a particularly masculine name but we really don't need to go as far as saying it's a name for weak and feeble men.

OP I think Tristan is a lovely name, my favourites to match with it are Jasper, Sebastian and Hugo.

Angus. Or Adam.

Oh yes, Cormack is a fabulous suggestion!
