Theo for short, I do dislike the name / nickname Teddy so that does put me off personally.

There are a lot of them about. Most of them are known as Theo. It's fine.

Moreteaandchocolate · 28/02/2025 21:24

Lovely but there loads of them!

helplessnesshopelessness · 28/02/2025 22:22

So many Theo's in DCs school
Think Theodore sounds a bit teddy bear / cutesy anyway but I do like the nn Teddy.

Waterlilysunset · 28/02/2025 22:23

Masses of Theo's about.
Very usual name.

coronafiona · 01/03/2025 00:01

I can only read it with a Caribbean accent. "Tee-o-dorr "!

Bayonetlightbulb · 01/03/2025 00:02

Makes me think of Theodore Upton unfortunately and he is someone I wouldn't want to be reminded of!

atthepinkponyclub · 01/03/2025 00:06

I think Theo is a beautiful name but it’s just far too popular now

Stichintime · 01/03/2025 00:06

Another Theo joins the world. I think it may be the Josh of 90s!

Agreed. Between all the boys called Theo and the eleventy billion dogs with the name as lovely as it is, it just feels like it's everywhere and it's overuse has definitely ruined the loveliness of the name.

pearbottomjeans · 01/03/2025 07:31

Its the Tom/Ben/Sam/James of this generation (meaning, 4 per class).

So, lots of people like it! I like it. But wouldn’t use it.

MissyB1 · 01/03/2025 07:45

Sick of hearing it everywhere sorry.

HugoYorway · 01/03/2025 15:33

I dislike Theodore and Theo is overused. Combined it is more used than the top name.
It's also almost compulsory to use James as a middle name.

VeryQuaintIrene · 01/03/2025 15:40

I love it and if I'd had a son, that's what he would have been.

itsmeits · 01/03/2025 15:45

Fab name, however if you are going to call him Theo just call him Theo.
I have a long name every one shortened it, I only got full named when I was naughty so grew to hate it.

Problem with that is then people will lengthen it thinking that it is a nickname.

scrivette · 01/03/2025 15:52

I love Theodore, I know a few Theo's but none of them are called Theodore.
I always think of Alvin and the Chipmunks and he was very cute!

And you put them straight that's not my name.

My dad has this issue. He's a Theo not a Theodore and will ignore if the latter is shouted. (dad's name is not Theo BTW)

HugoYorway · 01/03/2025 16:05

And you put them straight that's not my name. Fine in theory, but it doesn't work like that in real life.

It does as you ignore and don't respond to their ignorance, especially if they have been told.

My children have long names they don't respond to Liz, Lizzy, Beth, Libby, as their name is Elizabeth - not one of my childrens names just a good example lots of nicknames possible from it

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with nicknames, just sharing my personal experience of coming to hate my name as it was never used. And also how in our family we have handled ignorance of others. It's not rude to not respond if that isn't your name.

So a suggestion from a stranger on the Internet the OP can completely choose to ignore or think on. Which is what they asked for.

HugoYorway · 01/03/2025 16:27

@itsmeits , I get mine lengthened and I correct people but it doesn't stop it happening.

It might happen for you, but it doesn't happen in my circle.

I find it a bit rude i someone refers to Rose as Rosie or Rosemary if she's neither of those, but correcting people isn't well received.
