I think Mr and Mrs Kat are to be applauded for choosing such a sweet name.

It's nice, Smile but I wouldn't have this as the name on the birth certificate. As others have said Kit is a diminutive of Christopher. So I would name him Christopher and get everyone to call him Kit..... Then again Kate/Katie always came from Kathleen or Catherine, but became a name in its own right, so Kit may do eventually. I would still not just call a child Kit though. (JMHO.) Many congrats though @WendyES Is it your first grandchild? Smile

Yes my first grandchild- so special!
I knew they would choose a short name as their names are 3 letters too! 😀

Congratulations on your first grandchild. I have skin in the game - my daughter is called Kitty .... when I told her older sister (then 4 years old) what we were calling the new baby she said 'Oh...but what will the cat say?'

Anyway its a fabulous name and I am sure you are thrilled with him.

I like it as a nickname but would need to have a longer version as the actual name.

pleasedonotfeedme · 27/02/2025 22:41

I like it (and Kitty for a girl), but would probably have it as a shortened form of Christopher (or Katherine).

MrsSkylerWhite · 27/02/2025 22:43

Love it, love it, love it.

It’s a very traditional name! What are you talking about?

Many congratulations. 💐

It’s a fab name . Congratulations

WellsAndThistles · 27/02/2025 23:11

Nice nickname, daft birth certificate name.

Hope he doesn't have any siblings or cousins etc called Catherine, Katrina or Katie.....

Emanwenym · 28/02/2025 08:13

Congratulations! I liked it as short for Christopher, but if he's never going to be Christopher why would he need the long name and the K vs C hassle with initials?
Babies called Kit in England & Wales since 1996

(It is the name of one of the Rooneys though. just sayin')

TheCrackOfDawn · 28/02/2025 08:23

Honestly it’s really weird for you to have started this thread. Who cares what people think? The only opinion that matter is that if your son and his wife.

user1492757084 · 28/02/2025 08:33

Kit is nice.
It probably sounds very smart with his three syllable surname too.

atthepinkponyclub · 28/02/2025 08:40

It’s cute. Wayne and coleen have a son called Kit I believe? Not a shortening but a whole name.

Kitsmummy · 28/02/2025 08:42

I have a 21 year old son called (just) Kit. I've never liked the name Christopher so would never have used that. It's always had a good response, congrats!

Yes I know it is absolutely their decision and it’s growing on me! I just wanted other peoples opinions as it’s not the most traditional name.

I LOVE it! Particularly as a stand alone name.

Disco2022 · 28/02/2025 19:23

I named my son this so obviously I like it. It's a great name even though I was "daft" enough to put it on the birth cert. Confused

shoopshoopdedoo · 28/02/2025 19:38

Congratulations!

I personally also think of it as a nickname for Christopher, but it seems very trendy at the moment (I know five Kit’s under the age of three, and none any older), so that association will presumably wear off!
