Sister for Birdy

reallynotthat · 26/02/2025 18:50

Eldest DD is Beatrix but only uses Birdie.

We want little sister to have an equal /similar name or at least one with a nickname that's on the same page.

Any ideas?

I love Goldie, Winnie, and Agnes.

I'd like to suggest Nessa instead of Nessie though, because Nessie is the Monster and also rhymes with 'messy'. Nessa is a real (Irish) name too.

I can't see the attraction of Marnie at all.

But Nessa is...

Beryl berry
Matilda Tilly
Penelope penny

SquashedSquid · 27/02/2025 20:51

I love Marnie. Could be short for Hermione too.

I like Marigold too, but prefer Merry as a nickname, not Goldie.

PrincessOfPreschool · 27/02/2025 22:18

Matilda - Tilly
Josephine - Josie

Umbrellah · 27/02/2025 22:19

Dixie?

MotherOfCrocodiles · 27/02/2025 22:24

You can't do Kitty, she may predate on her sister!

I like Dixie, what could it be short for?

Do like Katerina ( a family name ) and nn Kitty.
Agree I can't have a Kitty and a Birdy though Grin

I love it too. I think it could just be Dixie! Another option is Dotty or Dolly, which should be short for Dorothy or Dorothea (and then when older she also has the option of Thea as a nickname too).

Katherine nn Kitty would be so sweet with a Birdy! Birdy and Kitty!

Otherwise, something cute and fifties-sounding would be ideal - Roberta/Bobbie; Daphne/Daffy; Belinda/Lindie; Maud/Maudie - and so on.

Middlepiepush · 27/02/2025 23:36

It has to be Katherine nn kittie

Edit to say I was beaten to it

Meredith? Or Frederika?

Helene8 · 28/02/2025 09:46

Saskia with Kiki

Josephine diminutive Josie.
Lilian / Lily.

Oh I so love a creative naming thread, so fun.

Birdie is GREAT! Bit disappointed it isn't her birth cert name!

Ok, so Beatrice nn Birdie. I'd want to match both Beatrice and Birdie for DD2.

Delila nn Dolly or Dixie
Tabitha nn Tabby/Tabs
Genevieve nn Genie (please pick this!!!!!)
Katerina nn Kit/Kitty
Jasmine nn Jazz
Jacqueline nn Jax
Jemima or Jessamine nn Jem
Roxana nn Roo

And here is my winning suggestion:
Zephora - it means beautiful bird/bird of beauty. Zephora nn Zip
Can be spelled Zipporah

reallynotthat · 28/02/2025 22:27

Obviously Birdie wants her sister to be Kitty Tabby also works Grin

I love Dixie and Genie but don't love the proper names.

How about Genevie instead of Genevieve? It's a variation, and nicer I think.

Gothamcity · 28/02/2025 23:04

I have a Tabitha, who always goes by Tabby. She has always said her name is Tabby, from as soon as she could talk, and it has stuck as "her name" all through school and everywhere else she goes. She's absolutely next level obsessed with cats too, which makes it even better 🤣. It goes well with Birdie!
