We just cannot settle on a name at all! Any suggestions greatly received!

Middle name - John (family links on both sides).
Irish sounding surname.

Names we’ve considered but only like don’t love: Oscar, Hugo, Henry.

Names I like but partner doesn’t: James, Toby, Caleb, Luca, Stanley.

Have you ruled out John as a first name instead of a middle name?

Immavet · 25/02/2025 14:02

I like Hugo, Luca and Henry... I've known a few dogs called Oscar which slightly puts me off, although it is a nice name!

We had a few ideas before DD was born but not set, once I gave birth we agreed almost immediately on a name when they say once they're here you will know, it's true

James is my favourite from all your options, or Henry from the list of names you both like. Second PP’s idea of using John as a first name!

Also, I think it’s fine to pick a name you both like, rather than love. Better to do that than pick a name one parent loves and one parent dislikes. You’ll love your baby so much that you will grow to love their name too!

John as a first name, your maiden name or your mother's as a middle.

HamSpray · 25/02/2025 18:53

You e got loads of time! We didn’t finally decide until we were on our way to register DS at eight weeks!

ScentOfAMoomin · 25/02/2025 18:53

What about John Joseph, known as Jonjo?

What about John Joseph, known as Jonjo?

The baby will come out wearing slurry-covered wellies and complaining about the price of bullocks.

Please not 'Luca'. I understand there are a lot around, but the only thing I can think of is 'filthy lucre'.
