As a sister for Molly? - first name that sprang to mind was Nell as it’s a similar vintage/retro “nickname” style name that suits all ages just like Molly. Could put Eleanor/Ellen/Helena on the BC if wanted.

Other ideas as a fit for Molly’s sister - maybe Nina, Emma, Lucy, Amy or Kate?

I think you need to avoid an ee/y sound at the end. Also, whilst I like Mathilda, Molly and Tilly is a bit "off".

From your list Kate is the only one that works for me but it feels as thiugh it's a different genre.

Jess(ica)/Tessa/Tara/Lara just sprang to mind. Or Martha?

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 23/02/2025 07:40

Matilda - love , this is my favorite
Lucy - pretty solid name but for some reason I just don’t like it
Jenny - I like it and it seems quite unusual for A baby born right now. I think I would go for something longer as the full name though and Jenny for short - Jennifer or Genevieve or Imogen
Kate - really like
Phoebe - really like
Chloe - not really keen and seems a bit nineties

What's the best?

I love Molly and Chloe, Lucy, Jenny or Phoebe. I don’t think Jenny needs a longer name on the bc - I actually think Jenny might be my favourite- it sounds so fresh for this generation.

Matilda often becomes Tilly, which is a bit matchy with Molly maybe. Kate is ok but I know a million Kates aged 30+, which slightly puts me off.

Jenny was my favourite but then someone on mumsnet told me it sounded like a 50 yearold social worker with greasy hair and it made me sad haha

Ha ha - it is a name associated with a different generation but I know a cool 20 year old with the name so it feels more timeless than dated to me! I’m sure as soon as people met a little Jenny their associations would change too and the name would sound sound so fresh and classy on a little one.

What's the best?

Of those, I think Kate fits best with Molly - and although it’s a nickname for Katherine, it seems to be used more and more often in its own right. Jenny is very pretty- but it is more stereotypically seen on 40’s plus and almost always short for Jennifer (so people will likely assume that if it matters).

Of the others I personally like Matilda best - but not sure about the repeated initial (plus Molly and Tilly might be a bit sing songy? - most Matilda’s seem to get shortened).

Do you want the same or different initial? Matilda
I'm thinking of Raggedy Ann or Little house in the prairie type of names although know sisters Molly and Ellie.
Kate or Katie or Katy or Kitty
Phoebe I like but does it go with Molly? does it need to go with Molly?
Chloe nope

Others ending with similar sound: Wendy, Amy, Hattie, Annie, Daisy, Betsy
Emma
Iris
Harriet
Laura
Fern
Clara
Beth
June
Ruth
Frances

The Molly I know has a sister called Hannah.

Favourite of your list is Chloe. It's still a popular name these days (ranked 65) so it's not dated, a similar popularity to Molly. I don't like Jenny as a standalone option, would have to be a nickname for a longer name.

How about:
Gemma
Annie
Maisie
Jane
Ashley
Nicole
Georgia
