We've been looking through family names and came across Renfred which is funny as both Ren and Fred our in our top list.

Is it a complete no?

It’s terrible and it also made me think of Renfield from Dracula.

BCBird · 16/02/2025 13:12

It's a no from.me. if u feel u want ul use it, then why not use as a middle name?

Or a 1960s bungalow lived in by Rena and Fred.

Wasn't Fred West's first wife called Rena?

OMG 😮

AubernFable · 16/02/2025 14:23

I immediately thought of Offred and Renfield- neither of which are ideal. Ren is lovely, with Japanese origins and very much a name, but Fred isn’t pretty imo.

Sounds like Betfred.

Footle · 16/02/2025 14:58

I knew a Renford

Despite my association with long forgotten cartoon Ren & Stimpy I think it's quite nice.

👆🏼Literally everything I was going to say.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 16/02/2025 15:03

I immediately thought of the Handmaid's Tale.

Moreteaandchocolate · 16/02/2025 15:09

I personally prefer Ren or Fred separately to Renfred - I think because it’s not familiar to me as a name and I would get fed of explaining it to people after a while!

Lou205 · 16/02/2025 15:09

Ren and Fred are both nice, why ruin them?

myrtleWilson · 16/02/2025 15:11

I had Ren as a possible name for Dd if she’d been a boy. I still like it!

Great minds and all that!

I actually really like it

Waterboatlass · 16/02/2025 15:58

Renfred... I don't definitely hate if I think of it as an old family name it but I think it's one to ask yourself in good faith whether you'd enjoy introducing yourself as it. It's a bit try hard to me and doesn't have a fantastic sound. Middle name as a family nod, great. First name, I've heard worse but I would give it some careful thought.

SuffolkBargeWoman · 16/02/2025 16:01

Dracula

Sorry!

PowerhouseOfTheCell · 16/02/2025 16:03

I’d just pray he was in the same class as baby Boden so he wouldn’t be the kid with the worst name. Sorry OP!

Maybe as a middle name

ContemporaneousNotes · 16/02/2025 16:08

Ren is the heroine in this film series.

If you like it, use it. Renfred or Ren.

MumonabikeE5 · 16/02/2025 16:09

I think it is a great formal first name, always Ren or Fred as Known As name

partisanhomecrowd · 16/02/2025 16:27

Renfred, seeing as your family has personal connections to the name especially, is fine, why not? Surnames as first names are popular. The name Ren is an actual gender neutral name, and Fred, there are a few diminutives; Fred, Freddie.

Ren is the hero of Ren and Stimpy. One of them.
