Looking for honest opinions on Grant, Grayson, Brody and Jude or suggestions for boys names of similar style. Brother to Phoebe.

Jude is nice.

I also like Sebastian but I am not sure if it fits with Phoebe

Why does it need to fit? They’re not a three-piece suite!

Jude much the best from your list. Grant is terrible. Grant is a middle-aged Freemason who plays golf with Malcolm and Bernard.

Scentsitive · 07/02/2025 08:13

Because a lot of people prefer it when names don't sound utterly ridiculous together.

@JJames1 Sebastian goes very nicely with Phoebe.

@JJames1 Sebastian goes very nicely with Phoebe.

But very few names sound ‘utterly ridiculous together’ unless you’ve called your children Bill and Ben, or Gavin and Stacey, or Sam and Ella.

There’s certainly nothing ‘utterly ridiculous’ about siblings called Sebastian and Phoebe.

Scentsitive · 07/02/2025 08:52

Well quite and if you look above I've said that too. 🙂

However there is something quite stupid sounding about sibling names like Samuel and Chardonnay, for example.

Sinkintotheswamp · 07/02/2025 09:01

Not Grayson. I always wonder if something dodgy will come out about that man. I hope not, but you never know.

BootballJoy · 07/02/2025 09:23

Sebastian and Phoebe is my favourite

VioletBeau23 · 07/02/2025 09:31

I know of a few little Grayson/Greyson's recently and it's awful! I don't even know why. It's just very fussy and old man sounding.

Jude is lovely. Brody is nice too. But please not Grayson!

yikesanotherbooboo · 07/02/2025 09:34

Sebastian goes very well with Phoebe .
The only Grayson that I have known personally was known as Gray
9

Clevs · 07/02/2025 09:35

I don't like any of them but Sebastian is great 👍🏻 Quite popular at the moment though.

Scentsitive · 07/02/2025 09:35

I think Sebastian is better by far than any of the names on the original list!

Ikr???

Jude or Sebastian. The others are terrible.

Sure, but that’s because Chardonnay is a stupid name, alone or with other names. It’s not going to sound less stupid because she has a sibling called Candi or Jaxxon compared to a sibling called Emma or Peter.

Felicityjoy · 07/02/2025 09:39

Grant sounds middle-aged. Don’t like Grayson at all, sounds vaguely American plus the only one I can think of is Grayson Perry and I don’t like him and his creepy "little girl" alter ego. Brody is ok (but I'm used to seeing it as Brodie). Jude is best and goes with Phoebe.

youngestisapsycho · 07/02/2025 09:41

Def Sebastian… not getting the sudden love for Jude, everyone is using it!

Scentsitive · 07/02/2025 09:44

It makes sense with names like that, regardless of whether or not the name is one I like.

Alfie, Lily-Mae and Chardonnay go perfectly well together; taste is another issue, of course.

Tarquin, Matilda, Hugo and Chardonnay, not so much.

But you're right, it is a stupid name and a bad example!

There are lots of better examples of non-stupid names that don't go together very well, but I don't really care enough to dredge them up, although it'd make a good procrastination exercise...

JJames1 · 06/02/2025 23:59

Yes, I think that’s fine.

Unless names are from completely different registers I don’t understand this "fit with sibling name" obsession some people have. They’re individuals and not going to spend much of their lives being referred to as "X and Y". Even while they’re children most people would usually say "the kids" or "Children, dinner time" most of the time and once they’re grown up they will have separate lives.

Also procrastinating here. 😀

I’ll do the thing I’m putting off if you will, @Scentsitive. Deal?

Scentsitive · 07/02/2025 10:26

Deal. MN does suck you in!

@JJames1Sebastian is perfect.

Moonlightstars · 07/02/2025 07:24

Brody - not a nice sound
Grant - 40 year old man who works in a dull office job that no one really understands.
Jude - will be very 2020s
Sebastian - solid name, Seb nice nickname
Grayson - bit try hard

I agree with this apart from Grant.

Grant is a mechanic.

Jessieshome · 07/02/2025 10:38

I don't understand this issue many on Mumsnet seem to worry about with names having to 'go' together, names don't have to be of the same ilk or era or the same style, there are no rules (except spelling of course 😉) it can be whatever name you want it to be, you can have a Mary and a John, a Tallulah and a Cristabelle, or an Edward and a Trixie or a Phoenix and a Susan. It absolutely doesn't matter, just pick names you love.

Grant - kinda like, I don't think I would have said that 20 years ago though!
Grayson - It's a bit wet sounding and also Grayson Perry, a marvellously bonkers person!
Brody - I really like
Jude - I really love

I've always liked Sebastian too - Its nice to say and Seb is a nice nickname :)

Good luck and congratulations :)

JJames1 · 07/02/2025 10:51

Thanks for the advice everyone

We are now leaning to Sebastian based on what you have all said. 👍 Will update when baby arrives.
