Merryn, Manon or Morgan

I just can't seem to find the right name. We really want something that says feisty, explorer but wouldn't be so out there that if she was a homebird it would seem wrong. OH still loves Skye (sentimental reasons) and Morven but I don't know if Skye has had its day. I only know the actress Morven Christie

Merryn Skye is lovely.

Ever since watching Manon des Sources I've found Manon depressing as a name. Manon Lescaut is not much better.

You could look at names of famous explorers/travel writers for inspiration?
Freya Stark, Isabella Bird, Gertrude Bell (maybe not so much Gertrude), Marianne North...

I only like Manon from that list, but it works better if you speak Welsh or French.
Morgan and Merryn are too masculine.
I like Morgane and Morven.

Love Morgan. It's also one of those rare trad unisex names that still seems usable for a girl or boy.

Not sure about Merryn - as far as I can see it is a Cornish male name? I'm used to seeing the Scottish Merrin/Mirrin (once upon a time short for Marian/Mariana, but now an established stand-alone).

Manon is also pronounced the French way in my head - almost more man-OH than man-OHN. (Plus it makes me think of the deity the girls worship in The Craft.)

Skye is OK - it's a Scottish place name, as is Morven. Merida (Mérida) is a city in Mexico. These kinds of names are popular at the moment, but for the long haul I would be more inclined to use a place name a middle name than as a first name.

Merryn

I like Merryn, although it was originally a masculine name and the only one I know is male.

Manon sounds like “man on”

What about Mirren or Maren?

Funny how you think the name MAN-on isn't masculine sounding? 😕

I love Morwenna.
DH vetoed it though, so we didn't use it.

Merryn is lovely.

Morgan is not to my taste, and Manon will not be pronounced as it should be in the UK.

I find the names a bit hint of woo. Not feisty explorer. But you're naming and creating a child not a video game character - you can't know in advance -, so I would perhaps review.

I wish I’d stuck to my guns and used Merryn, it’s one of my all time favourites!
