Classic girl names

We are struggling to decide on a name for our girl.

Shortlisted are:

Elizabeth
Grace
Katherine
Rosemary (less sure on this one)

We have a single syllable last name so thinking Grace might not work. We also like names that can be shortened easily to nice nicknames.

What does everyone think of the above and any other similar suggestions? Ruled out Charlotte, Victoria and Emma due to names in close family.

I think Alexandra is a beautiful classic name

Eleanor. shortened to Ellie

Matilda. Tilly for short

Annabel. or Bella for short

Dodonutty · 28/01/2025 22:54

Elizabeth and Rosemary are my favourites.
Also love the suggestions of Julia and Louisa.

Grace is nice enough but I’d worry it might not fit (I’m clumsy, and might expect my daughter to not be especially graceful). Nothing wrong with Katherine but I’ve never been that keen on it, and I don’t like the nickname Kat.

caringcarer · 28/01/2025 23:33

Elizabeth could be shortened to Beth or Lizzie.
Rosemary to Rosie
Katharine to Kate or Kitty

They are all nice names so you can't really go wrong with one of those. Abigail is also nice and could be shortened to Abi or Gail.

Enough4me · 28/01/2025 23:36

I'd use Grace as a middle name:
Elizabeth Grace
Katherine Grace
Rebecca Grace

Firsttimebabymummy · 29/01/2025 18:46

Alexandra?

Love Elizabeth

EzWin2 · 30/01/2025 10:29

I don’t really like them tbh…

Isadora (Dora)
Beatrice (Bea)

My favourite is Katherine from your list. Although my favourite girls name is Polly which I didn't get a chance to use.

Rosemary One - Rose or Rosie
Catherine One - Cat, Cate, Catie
Elizabeth One - Liz, Lizzie, Eli

Katherine / Katharine is lovely and underused right now - Kate and Kat are nice short forms too (like Anne of Green Gables I like it with a K - it’s punchier

The others are nice but all a bit overdone right now

Caroline
Beatrice
Miranda
Frances
Marianne
Rachel
Jocelyn
Susannah
Philippa
Lois
Jane

might be others
