Deciding on a boys name and I think this is the one but saw a comment saying it was chavvy and it's made me doubt myself! Is it classless? I prefer Finn to Finlay or Finley. Other favourites (but I would have to win DH over) are Cassian, Caspian, Felix or Jasper. Help!

Finn, Finlay or Felix are wonderful names.

I know several with these names. It's nice but it's getting a little boring to be honest.

What do you suggest?

Does every name need to be unique, and is it boring that you know others called Finn?

Adore Finn and Cassian!

bluebunnys · 28/01/2025 18:19

Finn seems a very 2010s name that has become a little dull from overuse and starting to sound dated.

It's also a person from Finland 🇫🇮

bluebunnys · 28/01/2025 18:20

I much prefer your other options!

I have a Finn who is 7 now. We still love his name. Not chavvy at all. We have come across a handful of Finn's in the last 7 years but definitely not overly popular here.

I have a Finn and funnily enough if I were to have another boy Finn wants the name Caspian as we loved the lion the witch and the wardrobe Smile
I never regretted for one sec not naming him Finlay or Finley and if people ask me or him is Finn short for Finley we say no and people always say that's cool Finn is such a great name and yes of course I'm biased it is!!

DramaAlpaca · 29/01/2025 23:04

I love the name Finn.

If I'd had a fourth son he'd have been called Finn, but I stopped after number three and got a puppy instead - whose name is, of course, Finn 😁

Very few names are actually unique, but it's a bit tiresome when several kids in the same class are called a variation of Finn. The point of a name is to identify someone.

Nobody classy uses the word chavvy op.

NoCarbsForMe · 30/01/2025 05:30

I like Fintan as well as Finlay

lonelyplanetmum · 30/01/2025 05:43

There's also Fintan.. Irish I think?

lonelyplanetmum · 30/01/2025 05:47

Sorry didn't see other Fintan post!

pinkwaffles · 30/01/2025 10:56

I like it but it does have a different vibe to your other choices. I wouldn't say 'classless' but just a bit more informal/ low key than your others.
