Tale as old as time me and hubby can't agree on names he's more traditional I'm more different

Names I like are Nova, Astrid, Ember and Freya.
He likes Melissa, Maree and Aurora.

I appreciate my some won't like my name choices and that's ok.

Agree with everyone else, your names are actually similar in vibe. (I think of 'traditional' as more like Catherine, Alexandra, Alice, Lucy, Elizabeth, Philippa etc.)

I really like both Melissa and Freya. Astrid, Ember and Aurora are fine, not a fan of Maree (Marie is fine although prefer Maria) or Nova.

Others with a similar vibe:
Leia
Kaya
Clara
Imogen
Ingrid
Juno
Thea
Athena
Amaia
Iris
Hazel
Sienna
Hallie
Remi
Aria

Maree is after the Loch a nod to the Scottish heritage. Middle name is very "normal" at Allison after a family member

Melissa is sweet.

HugoYorway · 25/01/2025 13:35

Nova - sounds like Norah with a speech impediment
Astrid - nice
Ember - awful but Amber is OK
Freya - too popular
Melissa - nice but will probably be Mel, could be Lissy
Maree - looks like a bad spelling
Aurora- awful

I'll offer Vanessa (Ness), Flora, Marie/Maria, Norah, Estelle/Estella

Haha thank you. Maree is the name of our local Loch it's a Scottish spelling.

@Dairymilkisminging , It still looks like a 'yooneek' spelling.

A lifetime of people spelling her name wrong. The majority of Alison’s use 1 L, and of course everyone will spell it Marie.

It’s irrelevant it’s tied to a loch. That’s really quite irrelevant and just silly.

Dairymilkisminging · 26/01/2025 03:22

Fair dos 🙂 I get what your saying I'd hate to have to repeat myself all the time with name spelling so she probably would too

I think your names are quite similar so you should be able to find something - have you tried that name app that matches your choices

Or maybe..

Estella
Cassia
Esther
Ida
Thora
Oona
Honor

Just don’t agree to Maree as a first name, unless you’re sure she’s going to live near the loch for her whole life, or she’ll end up endlessly spelling it and explaining she didn’t have crazee parents who wanted a younique version of Marie
