Would you be put off of Eva if I told you that we are from Germany and she will be “Eh-va”?

Evie and Evelyn have no pronounciation issues…

I'm Irish and was líke huh how else would you pronounce it. I think I got confused because we here we seem to have so many Eva, ah-va, alva type names in Irish. I actually prefer the eh-va pronunciation, Ee-va is a bit too sweet or something for my tastes.

Yes if you want that pronunciation in England I'd go for Ava. If you plan to move back to Germany at some point then Eva is fine.

shoopshoopdedoo · 18/01/2025 01:15

Eva, definitely.

I know a Belgian Eva, pronounced how I would say Ava, and I think it’s lovely.

ODFOx · 18/01/2025 01:23

Eva of your three.
Eve is the nicest of all.

blackoverbillsmothers · 18/01/2025 01:23

I prefer Eve. It’s a lovely name. Also more grown up than Evie which could be used as a nickname when the child is young.

Firsttimebabymummy · 18/01/2025 01:29

Evelyn :)

HugoYorway · 18/01/2025 09:30

I'd pick Eva. Of the 3, I only like Evie but it's so overused. I don't like Evelyn at all, but Eva is fine as a German name.

Ava, Everly, Evelie, Evangeline etc are not to my taste, and they're just Evie names.

DrEggman · 18/01/2025 12:49

Eva is my favourite. So bored of Evie there are billions of them.

VenusClapTrap · 18/01/2025 22:20

Eve.

I know an Yfke (pronounced eefker) if you fancy something similar but different.

RuthW · 19/01/2025 10:04

Evelyn.

You can use both the others as shortenings

timoteigirl · 19/01/2025 13:12

Eva

LoudPlumDog · 19/01/2025 13:35

Eva, or alternatively Eve.

Mumofteenandtween · 19/01/2025 13:53

I like Evelyn but it can be pronounced in two different ways.

Ds used to have an “Eve lynn” and an “Ev lynn” in his class at school.

Whoarethoseguys · 19/01/2025 13:56

I think Eva is the nicest or Evelyn. Evie can be a pet name if like it but the other names give her more options

Rosebeds · 26/01/2025 11:45

Really don’t like these, very nothing names to me I’m afraid but if I had to pick then Eva?

Mirabai · 26/01/2025 14:07

If you live in the U.K. and want to call her Ehva I’d use the Ava spelling to avoid the constant correction.

But Ehva and Ava (Ay-va) are completely different!

I think that would sway me towards Evelyn 😊

Yeah me too.

Eva will never be said like that in the UK though, or do you mean you actually live in Germany?

Evie is too babyish.

Evanna crops up in Ireland occasionally - it’s just a blend of Eve and Anna so should work anywhere.

Evie!

Fridaybliss · 26/01/2025 21:08

No we don’t live in Germany but we may go back in 5-10ish years… still unknown!

The problem is that Eva is called “Ee-va” only in the Uk. In southern, central and north and Eastern Europe is Eh-va :-(

I am now wondering what all British Eva’s do if they live abroad?!

I don’t say Ayva.

Eeeva is completely different to Ehva/Ava.

Runfaraway · 26/01/2025 23:25

Mirabai · 26/01/2025 21:41

I don’t say Ayva.

Eeeva is completely different to Ehva/Ava.

Eva is pronounced Ayva in lots of European languages though. So there are many Evas pronounced Ayva in the UK.

mathanxiety · 26/01/2025 23:52

Evalina?

Eva (Eh-va) would be my favourite, but is there an association with Eva Braun?

I like Evelyn too.

mathanxiety · 26/01/2025 23:53

Or you could stymie everyone with Aoife.
