Uncommon names for babies

Hi everyone!
I'm expecting twins due in late September and DH and I are struggling to think of names. My DH and I already have a son (biologically his from a previous relationship, Mum is not in the picture) called Zachary, who is 5.

We're not interested in weird/alternative spellings, but we do want something that is uncommon or unheard of, that still goes well with Zach's name.

Any ideas?

There may not be many young Marks but there are still A LOT of middle aged Marks around, so the name still feels common. Give it another 20-30 years!

I like the suggestions of

Darius
Quentin
Caspar

Tabitha
Seraphina
Rosalie

Juliagreeneyes · 14/01/2025 17:42

Some of the ones quoted above are popular as anything! Every second girl in my DD’s primary class was called Georgina or Lottie.

What about:

Christabel
Rosalind
Hero
Saskia
Laura
Constance
Cecily
Anoushka
Amadea

Florian
Bennett
Aaron
Noah
Christopher
Julius
Pasco
Nathaniel

How do you know it’s twins if you aren’t due until 8 months from now? Surely you are only a few weeks pregnant?

About 15 years ago round here - but not at all for babies at the moment! Goes well with Zachary

Fontainebleau007 · 14/01/2025 21:09

@Juliagreeneyes I do agree it goes nicely.

Due late September?? Have they even been conceived yet?

BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop · 15/01/2025 11:31

I’ve never understood the desire to find an unusual/ unique name for your child. I have a unique(ish) name- it’s a pain in the arse.

Some of the suggested names are really common. I know lots of young Noahs, Bens and Finns for example.

You know there's a huge middle ground of well known beautiful and memorable names that are easy to say/spell?!

The alternative to an overused top 10 name is not necessarily an obscure unique one!!

bluebunnys · 15/01/2025 14:07

We're not interested in weird/alternative spellings, but we do want something that is uncommon or unheard of

How about

Magnus
Quentin
Conrad
Cassius

Astrid
Viola
Marnie
Dahlia

Personally i love them all - underused classics that are well known and easy to say/spell. Much more memorable than a popular top 10 name (that will inevitably sound dated as it falls out of fashion)

Ottilie

Genuinely unusual for kids at the moment?

Harold, Roger, Stephen, Peter, Michael, Terence, Derek, Francis, Graham.

Sheila, Linda, Margaret, Gillian, Gertrude, Susan, Barbara, Anne, Patricia

not currently unusual - any girls name that starts and ends with a vowel, any boys name that sounds like a surname or an off-brand medication (current winners Jayxon and Tylor)
