why do we care what others think? including myself!!!

we torture ourselves trying to think of the best name possible for our little ones, starting threads asking for others opinions and then become upset or disuaded at the responses.

Why do we do it? Clearly not everybody will like / love our chosen names as everybody is different and everybody knows a 'so and so' that reminds us of that name.

ive done it myself - started a thread on my chosen name as R/L responses were so mixed. In the end i decided to stick with it irrelevant of anyone elses views.
Why is it so damn difficult naming our children?

Because we want everyone to love the chosen name and think it's a beautiful name that embodies all of the fantastic, desirable qualities that the precious dc will have.

So being told, "ooh, you're going to call her yrdes? I knew a yrdes and she was a right cow" is guaranteed to irritate.

Baby names threads have always baffled me, too, I'd never start one.
But I sometimes answer them, not sure why, except OPs seem so earnest in desiring other people's opinions!

Am firmly of the belief that people should just decide and use it. Many names that were considered naff in the past are back in fashion.
Although hopefully fewer kids would get saddled with names like 'Chlamydia' if their parents double checked, so I can see this name-choice insecurity serving a purpose.

Its way to hard.

i wasnt sure of the name i thought of on the thread i started i didnt go of it because
other people didnt like it i just went of it.

Okay I started one and the reason is that I am feeling sooo hormonal at 33 wks preg and lacking in a certain sense of conviction that basically I felt like I needed a reality check.

I don't know why people ask-if you like it it really doesn't matter!

I started one just to check general opinion on a particular name. I was never going to be completely swayed by opinion but just wanted to see if others had thought of a downside that I hadn't - after all poor DC will be stuck with it.
