Carmen is a very pretty name and sorry, makes me think a)mad opera wifie or b)carmen miranda and mad fruitbowl hat. But i do like it!

Hugh, Hugh Barney McGrew Custard Dibble and...

Hugh is ok but not inspiring imo. does it sit nicely with surname?

BabieWabbit · 03/05/2008 00:05

Love Carmen...It's one of my favorite names, I Think Hugh is lovely too

Rosbo · 03/05/2008 00:12

well surname is smith.
goes with anything really, except Romy, the name I really liked for a girl!

Carmen - fab, fab, fab

Hugh is OK (don't have any strong opinions either way)

SlartyBartFast · 03/05/2008 00:18

like hugh
not keen on carmen

snice · 03/05/2008 00:20

Carmen is nice. Hugh is not particularly exciting or offensive, like John. So if that's what you are going for that's not bad!

bringmesunshine · 03/05/2008 08:42

Don't like Carmen. Hugh....a bit bland I think personally.

SlartyBartFast · 03/05/2008 08:51

hugh is a good scottish name, for john i think??

MrsMattie · 03/05/2008 08:52

Not keen on Hugh at all. Conjures up posh Hugh Grant types.

Carmen is beautiful.

CrackerOfNuts · 03/05/2008 08:54

Not keen on either tbh.

PestoMonster · 03/05/2008 08:56

I don't like either of them, sorry. Carmen reminds me of Carmen-Miranda with fruit on her head and Hugh, well, just no, really.

loler · 07/05/2008 20:49

Why doesn't Romy Smith work? I prefer I think it's a prettier name than Carmen.

ChippyMinton · 07/05/2008 20:52

Love Romilly (there's a TV news reporter called Romilly Weeks IIRC) and Romy (Romy & Michelle's High School Reunion - movie)
Quite like Hugh spelt Huw

claraquitetirednow · 07/05/2008 20:53

Hugh no but Huey yes, Hugo yes.

pointydog · 07/05/2008 21:01

Shug - nickname for Hugh

What's wrong with Romy?

Love Romilly too.

Just personally I don't fancy Carmen Smith as a name but that's just me and I would no doubt like it once I got to know the person.

Hugh I am not tremendously keen on but it's fine. Nice with Smith.

Shitemum · 07/05/2008 21:06

Carmen Smith reminds me of the film 'Carmen Jones'
Really sorry but don't think Carmen and Smith sit well together. It's like the Carmen is a desperate attempt to jazz up the Smith iyswim. No offense...
I would go for something with more syllables.

LynetteScavo · 07/05/2008 21:07

I love Hugh for a boy... went to school with a real cow called Carmen, so that has clouded my judgement.

dizzydixies · 07/05/2008 21:14

love them both

treacletart · 07/05/2008 21:17

Carmen's great.

I like Hugo better than Hugh - I think more than one syllable is better with Smith

stripeytiger · 07/05/2008 21:19

I like Carmen. Hugh....not sure, but its a sound, sensible name, can't be shortened but could be lengthened to Hughie
