Louisa or Clara?

Due in a few weeks with a little girl and we’ve narrowed it down to Louisa or Clara. My husband is French so we wanted a name which works in the U.K and France.

I’m completely torn which one to go for!

What would you choose? :)

Our Louisa has been the only one in the whole school from age 4 up until 16. I've never known another one, so it's pretty rare nowadays.

I love both but Louisa is more unusual at the moment.

Love Clara, Louisa not bad either but Clara is gorgeous

Judging on how often it comes up on these threads I think Clara is quite heavily used currently.

They are both pretty but I prefer Clara because of the proliferation of different vowels in Louisa- that’s just my weird view though because my middle name is Louise and I found it very difficult to spell as a child, it often came out Lousie!

Both lovely names but I'd choose Clara

I love both names, it is hard to choose. Both are closer to heart and sounds beautiful. You can use one of the name as a middle name.

I currently know 3 Claras under 5. So I think it is a name rising in popularity - depends whether that makes a difference to you or not.
I prefer Louisa anyway!

Louisa is a lovely name

Louisa… Louisa Clara sounds lovely.

Clara

I prefer Clara; "Loo Easer" is a common laxative name in my country. Clara strikes me as the perfect wintry name, probably because of the Nutcracker, it makes me thing of snow, twinkling stars, magic, candles etc. Both names are perfectly acceptable and traditional.

Clara Louisa would be my choice

Louisa. I’m just not keen on Clara- to me it has a harsh sound and can’t be shortened.
