I thought we had narrowed it down to just four names, but my husband doesn't really want to let go of Lucy.

I do like it, but think it is a bit overdone and the bad publicity the name got last year is still on my mind, even though I know there are lots of other associations.

For some reason I like Lucie a lot better and could choose it more easily than Lucy. Is it a bad idea because it will cause confusion or is it bearable to say "Lucie, ends in "ie"" every time?

I guess we'd have a similar problem with Keira anyway, which is also on our list. My guess is that with Keira people are expecting one of three/four spellings, though (Keira, Kiera, Ciara, Kira) whereas with Lucy they will expect Lucy and not Lucie.

Does anyone have a popular name that is usually spelled one way with a slightly different spelling (e.g. Hollie instead of Holly, Elinor instead of Eleanor, Elly instead of Ellie)? Was it annoying or not a big problem?

The other ones are Ruby, Rosalind, Keira, Annabel and my favorite would be Ruby Rosalind at the moment. My husband's are Keira Rose and Lucy Rosalind.

I am Kimberley (mostly known as Kim) and get Kimberly/ Kimberlee etc. So I have to do the Kim ber ley thing a lot.

I took DCat to be chipped. I was asked his name, how was it spelt? I spelt it out and it was said as it looked in English.

Catherine / Kathryn/ Katharine plus Katie / Katy, Kerri / Kerry / Kerrie, Sarah / Sara and many many more are all names with a variety of spellings.

Lucie is nicer IMO than Lucy, go for it

I struggled for ages trying to work out this years negative association so I wouldn't rule it out on that basis

Lucia lis lovely why not go for that and shorten to lucie?

I like Lucie actually and I imagine she will always have to say IE. But so will lots of other people (I know a lot of Hollies for example)

She'll have to spend life time spelling it and correcting people which is annoying to her, annoying to them and a waste of the short time we have on this earth.

People will judge her (and you) for having an affection as a spelling. Sorry to say this kind of "unique" spelling of names (Harleigh, Aimee, Emilee) is very indicative of working classes / uneducated / poverty.

Unless she grows up in a world where all CVs are blind marked, people do form an assessment of someone based on their name. It might be unpleasant but its a fact of life that a woman called Catherine Lavinia Fetherstonehaugh is far more likely to get an interview for the job in the art gallery than Billee Bobee Brown.

Ruby won't become dated - my great aunt was Ruby, I know another in their 30s, and a 2 year old one too, it's a classic and timeless name that goes in and out of popularity but it's hardly just an of the moment kind of name like say Luna or Ottilie.

I like Lucie more than Lucy. I know a couple of Lucinda’s and one goes by Luci which I also like. Lucia has a few pronunciations itself
so I wouldn’t choose this just so I could avoid the y!
