We had our baby boy 2 weeks ago and can't agree on a name! I love the name Monty and I think he suits it. My other half isn't as keen but agrees he looks like a Monty. We both like the name Joel, but not sure if it suits him.
Would love to know name which everyone likes ☺️ Thank you!

Joel - I’m biased though because that’s my ds name - but he’s 29. I work in a school and don’t come across any Joel’s there.

This may or may not help, but my next door neighbour is Joel and his dog is named Monty 😬

Both excellent names imo. I know a human Monty (14). His full name is Montgomery.

I think I’d go with Monty as Joel risks being pronounced as Jo-el, which would annoy the crap out of me.

Thank you all so much for your replies 🥰

I loved the idea of calling him Montagu and Monty for short, but my other half doesn't like any longer version.
For me I associate the name Monty with Monty Don ☺️

Yes Joel pronounced like coal. It is a lovely underused name. I do worry about having to correct people as to how we pronounce it though.

With Jonty I worry it would be shortened to Jon which doesn't appeal to me quite as much.

Definitely Joel for me. And I've only ever hear it pronounce like coal so I'm surprised to hear alternatives!
I don't know any on real life but don't consider it a wildly unusual name.
Monty is a NN for me. And Jonty is also a NN, for Jonathon! (Or the only one I've met was)
I associate Monty with full monty unfortunately, so not keen
