So Sebastian is long with a good short nickname. Also quite traditional and a bit posh. Similar to me are;

Jeremiah - Jed
Solomon - Sol
Nathaniel - Nate
Augustine - Gus

I don't love these as much but they do sound similar
Caspian / Cassius
Jasper

I don't think Sebastian is massively popular though. It's still quite a niche type name but I like it.

I have a 3 year old Sebastian and we’ve only ever met one other child with the same name (in a park, other child was a good few years older). Might just be my area though. Lots of people complement us on his name.

For our second we were planning on Phineas, nn Phin/Fin which I loved but DH was not so keen.

Personally I'm not a fan of Sebastian due to the short forms Seb (sebaceous) and Bastian (bastard).

What is it you like about Sebastian?
I think of it as being shakespearean and linked to an F1 superstar.

Ir's not too overused, but it might be too popular for you.
Suggestion: Orlando (As You Like It/Lando Norris),

I’d just go for Sebastian if you like it. I’ve only come across two in 12 years of parenthood - one in my 10 yr old’s class, and one a friend’s 8 yr old in a totally different part of the country. It’s a name that when I was growing up I thought of as unusably pretentious but has now become much more mainstream and I really like it. It’s definitely not everywhere though!

I wanted to call DS Sebastian but we went for another name in the end (mainly because I didn't like the shortenings). I've not come across any others though. For what it's worth, the other names on our list were Toby and Joshua.
