Peter or Joel?

Which name do you prefer? Love that they are both underused classics that you don’t hear of much these days. Middle name James or Theodore. Did a post recently about other options but it’s now down to these two!

OP posts:

Peter, Peter James is nice

Agree. Very noble and sensible name

Peter.
My now 13y old, who has a similarly 'old fashioned, but not yet trendy/retro' name, has a friend called Peter.
I found it a bit odd at first, just because it is/was so unusual on a little one, 'these days'.
He was affectionately known as 'wee Pete' at home, but was always Peter at school, and that's what his peers call him.
I grew to love the name, and can't imagine him being anything else.
Peter is due a resurgence.

Joel.

I don't like the name Peter. Sounds weak and insubstantial. Maybe I'm connecting the phrase 'petering out' with the name.

Peter! Love it. Handsome, strong, timeless. I know a few Peters from age 9 to 90, and it suits them all well.

I was born in the 70s and went to primary school with Peters, Stephens, Roberts, Pauls and Simons. They seem like really dull and dated names to me. Can’t imagine naming a child Peter nowadays. Plus you’d risk Pete, which is even worse.

Somewhat more desirable than Walter😂

Peter. Use Peter Joel as the given names. Both names are great.
James is a filler middle name but nice as a first name, and I dislike Theodore.

Joel

Both cracking names. I prefer Joel.

I had Peter on our list purely because I like Peter Wimsey (had Bredon on it for the same reason) but then decided to go for something less unusual.

I quite like Joel too though like pp I prefer Joseph/ Joe

Peter is a great choice.

Joel - great name

I like Peter but really hate Pete, so I wouldn't risk it
