I don't like the way it seems to get said in several different ways.

CookieMonster28 · 07/12/2024 17:48

It's a 'meh' name to me!

Comedycook · 07/12/2024 17:49

It's nice enough....a bit 90s to me.

Feelingstrange2 · 07/12/2024 17:49

I love Naomi!

It was the name of my cool friend at school and she's still cool now aged nearly 60!

MarchingInto2025 · 07/12/2024 17:56

Love Naomi!

For middle names I'd consider

Evangeline
Violet
Jessica
Clara
Sarah
Maude
Catherine

Moreteaandchocolate · 07/12/2024 17:59

My friend has a Naomi and this is the bane of her life

LlynTegid · 07/12/2024 18:43

I like Naomi as a name, perhaps in part because without exception every one I have known with that name has been a lovely person.

As for a middle name, a one syllable one sounds appropriate, perhaps one from an ancestor.

Mumofgirls2017 · 07/12/2024 21:43

Find it a tiny bit dated, but could be a lot worse!

naomi violet
naomi scarlett
naomi sarah
naomi hannah
naomi grace
naomi joy
naomi willow
naomi ruth
naomi beatrice
naomi juliet
naomi harriet
naomi helena
naomi annabelle
naomi alice

theduchessofspork · 07/12/2024 22:01

I really like it, long history and a bit sparky, yet cool and collected

I'd avoid the cliche single syllable middle name, and probably also anything else biblical -

I like Naomi Beatrice suggested above

Or maybe

Naomi Ines
Naomi Carys
Naomi Edith
Naomi Elsbeth
Naomi Gwyneth
Naomi Adelaide
Naomi Genevievre
Naomi Isabel
Naomi Emmeline

paddypipedown · 07/12/2024 22:10

It's my daughter's name (she's in her twenties) and I love it ! There aren't very many of them so you wouldn't have to worry about there being lots in a class.

It does get pronounced in lots of different ways and shortened to lots of different versions but we've have never really minded about that.

VacuumPacked · 07/12/2024 22:29

Edited

It's NAY-oh-mee in the UK isn't it? The others are mispronunciations I think

A friend of my mum had a daughter she called Naomi but she wanted it pronounced “Name-ee”. If someone pronounces it differently from the way you do, how much will it annoy you?

DuchessOfSausage · 08/12/2024 13:25

@Scutterbug , I'd say NAY-o-mi, but I've heard Nay-O-mi, NIGH-u-mi, Nigh-O-mi, NA-o-mi, Na-O-mi...

BabyNameHelpPls · 11/12/2024 12:59

I’m biased as I have one month old Naomi, but I love it!

People are rarely rude about a name once the baby has arrived, but we’ve had a lot of compliments and they seem genuine. Lots of people saying you don’t come across it often but it’s recognisably a name. Several people have asked if we’re pronouncing it NayOhMi or NyOhMi so if different pronunciations will annoy you that’s something to consider—but at least people are aware of the different options and ask! I don’t really hear the difference, myself (and I think in the UK NayOhMi is more southern and NyOhMi more northern?).

I also considered beforehand that it might be a bit dated/90s, and it’s definitely been declining in popularity since the mid-90s, but that was a bit of a unintended feature of our shortlist, so not important in the end.

mrssquidink · 11/12/2024 13:21

As someone called Naomi I think it’s an excellent name 😀It can be pronounced in a variety of ways (in fact my parents pronounce it differently to how I do) but weirdly I don’t mind this as long as it’s recognisable. However I do get annoyed if it’s spelt wrong (go figure)

PurpleChrayn · 11/12/2024 20:20

I love it.

I have one.

The pronunciation is an issue though.

At nursery she's known as Nigh-OH-me. Older people say it NAY-ermee. We pronounce it Nay-OH-me.
