Keira Rose or Ruby Rosalind, Rosalind or Annabel, Annabelle?

We have narrowed it down to our final four.

Keira
Ruby
Rosalind
Annabel or Annabelle - which spelling?

Just a few questions:

  1. Which one do you prefer: Keira, Ruby, Rosalind or Annabel, Annabelle?
  2. Which spelling do you prefer, Annabel or Annabelle? Do you pronounce them the same?

These are our combos, but not set in stone yet:

Ruby Rosalind
or
Keira Rose
or
Rosalind (maybe with Annabel or Annabelle as the middle name, Rosalind Annabel, Rosalind Annabelle)
or
Annabelle, Annabel (probably with Rosalind or Ruby. Annabelle Rosalind, Annabel Rosalind, Annabel Ruby or Annabelle Ruby)

Would you use one of your top names as a middle name or should it be saved for future kids? Not quite sure. Thanks again.

Rosalind with a one syllable middle name.
Annabel Rose

I don't like Keira and Rose is overused as a middle name.
Ruby will get shortened to Rube or Rubes.

Annabel is OK but Annabelle is too frilly. Prefer Anna.
Rosalind is lovely but will get shortened.

Thanks for pointing this out to me.

I love Ruby, but I dislike Rube and Rubes. Especially Rubes reminds me of an unfortunate word :(

Does anyone know if these are common as nicknames? I personally never hear them and I don't think many girls would like to be known as Rubes. But maybe I'm wrong. Thanks again.

I like Annabel best - Annabel Rosalind

I also like Ruby - very sparky - Ruby Annabel - but it's a bit overdone..

I like Rosalind but there are too many Rosies and I don't like Ros

I Don't especially like Kiera - but it's spelt like that, or more properly Ciara (Keira was a typo by Keira Knightly's dad)

Unless you're French I think the Annabelle spelling is fussy, and Rose has been way overdone as a middle name

Otto223 · 08/12/2024 00:34

My name is Kiera - I know one other Kiera & never went to school with another Kiera, so I would say it is not really a common name! I love my name. My mum shortens in to Kia / Kier.

HongKongFinish · 08/12/2024 00:40

Ruby Rose

whydoihavetowork · 08/12/2024 00:57

Annabel is the best name and the shorter version is the English spelling. I think you could use any of your names as a middle name as well eg Annabel Ruby, Annabel Rosalind etc.

And yes I know a Ruby called Rubes!

mathanxiety · 08/12/2024 01:39

I like Annabel best.

Annabel Rosalind would be lovely imo.

Eenameenadeeka · 08/12/2024 07:42

I absolutely love the name Annabelle. I didnt get to use it as I picked something else for my daughter but if we had a second daughter that would have been her name .second best on your list is Rosalind, I think it has lots of pretty nicknames too.

mum1345 · 08/12/2024 08:01

I also do not use the nickname Rubes for the same reason as you wouldn't want too!

Which is why we use the nickname Rue for our Ruby.
Most people go with that, but I have had a couple of people (a family member and nursery worker) call her Rubes so unfortunately it may get shortened to that from time to time.

I grew up with a Ruby and it was never shortened. But you also can't control the nicknames your kid likes.

yikesanotherbooboo · 08/12/2024 08:27

I like Rosalind and to a slight lesser e tent Annabel.
I don't particularly care for Keira or Ruby but that is my taste and Ruby in particular works well as a second name for either of the longer names.

Powerofflower · 08/12/2024 09:18

I’d vote Keira Rose.

Firsttimebabymummy · 08/12/2024 09:31

Rosalind is my favourite
Also like Ruby Rosalind

MrsMoastyToasty · 08/12/2024 09:38

I would put Annabelle or Keira with one of the other names, as there seems to be a colour theme . Rosa (pink), Ruby (red).

healthybychristmas · 08/12/2024 09:41

I know a Ciara Rose and I think it's a beautiful name.

bridgetreilly · 08/12/2024 23:30

Rosalind.

Annabel is way nicer than Annabelle imo.

Rosalind Ruby would be gorgeous.

JessyCarr · 09/12/2024 07:39

Annabel Ruby is my favourite combo.

CurlewKate · 09/12/2024 07:43

Annabel. Possibly shortened to Bel.

Mugcake · 09/12/2024 15:14

Annabelle reminds me of the creepy horror film 🙈 and it's seems super popular at the moment.
From your list I like kiera the best, I've only met 2 kieras before. Its not popular but it's pretty and easy to pronounce.
Kiera rose is lovely
Ruby rosalind would be my next choice

RubyBirdy · 09/12/2024 23:09

Use Ruby as the middle name, then it will solve the Rubes issue as it won’t ever be shortened. Rosalind Ruby is my personal favourite.

mrspresents · 10/12/2024 21:21

Prefer Anabella spelling.

Rose as a middle name is the Louise of the 80's- every little girl has it.

I like Anabella Ruby

VenusClapTrap · 11/12/2024 08:05

Rosalind Anne

SayItLikeItIsLetsKeepItReal · 30/05/2025 19:04

Ruby 100%. How about Ruby Rose?

AnneMarieW · 30/05/2025 19:45

Rosalind by far - great Shakespeare character and an elegant, classic name (with a 2nd fab namesake in scientist Franklin). Nice meaning and nice choice of nicknames too in Rose (Shakespeare’s choice for Rosalind) Rosa, Rosie, Roz or Lindy.

Personally I’d be tempted by Rosalind Ruby as I love alliteration but Rosalind Annabel does sound very elegant. Ruby is not for me as a first name though - far too trendy and likely to date if it hasn’t already.

Definitely the Annabel spelling too - it’s the one found in classic literature (like Poe’s Annabel Lee). Annabelle looks quite frilly imo.

And if it’s only a middle name then the Annabelle/Annabel spelling confusion won’t matter as much (Kiera has the same confusion anyway thanks to Keira Knightley plus it has a slightly 80’s/early 90’s feel to me).

Firebird83 · 01/06/2025 23:06

Rosalind Annabel or Annabel Rosalind. Keira and Ruby are dated.
