DP and I have a shortlist of names but really can’t pick which one to use. I have slight preference to Katie and Emma, DP slightly prefers Anna. We also really like Abby/Abbie/Abigail but can’t pick a spelling and worry it’s a bit dated. Also worry Natalie is a bit dated too.

I voted Anna.

Next I like, in order
Emma
Natalie
Katie
Abbie
Abigail

I like Abbie spelt the mnost popular way.

Atishooo · 20/11/2024 08:22

I like Natalie, it’s dated but tbh it makes a change from the plethora of Evie-Mays and Lily Roses.

How about Natasha? I like all your choices.

Enna7985 · 20/11/2024 08:23

Katie is great

Fontainebleau007 · 20/11/2024 08:40

Abigail

KirstenBlest · 20/11/2024 09:20

I like all of them but:
I prefer Kate to Katie
Natalie doesn't sound good in all accents and I don't like Nat
Anna seems underused but Annabelle and similar names are popular
Abigail is nice, as are Abi (various spellings) and Gail.

I like Emma and Anna because they are timeless and simple, but of the two I much prefer Emma.

(Emilia is nice but Amelia is overused, and the Emelia misspelling would annoy me, and she'd probably be a Milly, which isn't on your list)

marshmallowfinder · 20/11/2024 09:42

I'm afraid I find them all extremely dull and boring.

Amarige · 20/11/2024 12:51

What Eloise?

Amarige · 20/11/2024 12:52

What about Eloise?

SatinHeart · 20/11/2024 14:26

I like all of them but Emma and Anna are the most timeless.

Katie/Natalie/Abigail are all possibly a bit dated but still nice. Kate or Kat/Cat are less dated imo. I also like Laura but I think maybe also dated.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 20/11/2024 20:28

Anna is stunning - elegant, timeless and so international (and one of the few cool palindrome name to boot!). It would be top of my list if there wasn’t already one in my family. There is nothing wrong with Emma either though, imo it’s nice enough, fairly timeless too, easy to say and spell and has a rich history.

I find Katie (as opposed to more classic Katherine) quite dated to the 80’s/ 90’s and Natalie is similar (though perhaps to a lesser extent). Abby alone is too nickname for me, although fine for Abigail or perhaps even Tabitha.

TeamPolin · 20/11/2024 20:33

There were what felt like a hundred girls in my school called Katie. I find it really boring now.

I actually quite like Natalie. I don't think it's dated. It makes me think of chic Frenchwomen.... Anna is classic and Annie is a cute NN for a little girl.

Marlena1 · 20/11/2024 20:37

I love Abby/Abbie and Natalie but I love names that are considered dated on here ( DD1's name is a bit dated I must confess). Anna is my favourite of the first three.

leia24 · 20/11/2024 21:15

I went to school in the 90s with a few Natalies and haven't met a baby Natalie ever in 10 years of working with hundreds of children. I know a few young Tali/Talia.
I have one of your dated names myself, Katie, and its fine and you still hear it around on little ones sometimes. I think Abbie as a full name is very usual and I think Abigail is barely used these days because its just not a nice name. I don't like Emma I think that's boring. Anna is probably the best on your list.

RogueFemale · 21/11/2024 02:55

I voted Emma but I like Anna as well.

Dislike Natalie, Katie, Abby etc.

Emma or Anna are timeless classics.

TheSandgroper · 21/11/2024 04:21

Since when is Natalie dated? (Indignant on behalf of all the lovely Natalies I have had the pleasure of knowing).

Caroline is a name not heard much these days but I believe always sounds a good name for a grown up.

Alina?

Copperoliverbear · 21/11/2024 04:57

I like Katie and would have Natalia over Natalie.

Let me guess, most of the Natalie’s you know are aged between early 30’s to late 40’s? It’s pretty but the lack of age range is why it’s dated (just like Katie) - you rarely seem to meet young ones or elderly Natalie’s (at least in this country).

While I mostly know middle aged Caroline’s too, for some reason it seems to get away with sounding more “classic” - I suspect it’s the historical Royal links (the same reason C/Katherine feels more classic than dated).

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 21/11/2024 17:39

Having said all that though, if the OP doesn’t mind her DD having a name more likely be shared with her teachers or her friends Mum’s than her peers, then it’s no big deal. I’d say the same about names like Sarah and Laura - pretty, classic even, but very popular in the 35- 50 plus age group!

WaitinginVain · 21/11/2024 18:04

Natalie’s a really pretty name - I don’t think of it as dated. Also like Abigail in full.

Moveoverdarlin · 21/11/2024 18:08

Hate Natalie (people always drop the T). Katie is my favourite. Abigail is not pretty but I like Abbie (but I only like it spelt Abbie with an i e)
