Nieves is a lovely Spanish name which means "snows"

I'd say Eira is pronounced Eye-rah. That's how my friend's dog's name is pronounced.

It's more of an 'Ay' (as in hay) than 'Eye' - it does tend to be pronounced like 'Ira' but that's not strictly right.

Not all Welsh folk pronounce it the same way though.

There's an Eira in my family in North Wales where everyone says Ayrah (Ay as in May). But elsewhere in Wales I've heard it pronounced Ira or even Eera.

Beautiful name though and our Eira earned her name by being born during a blizzard!

Would agree with this. There was a girl called Eira-Jane in our street - eye-rah.

Though we are South-Walian and it may be different in the North.

South Walian as well and would never say Eye-rah.

My twins were born during snow, I called them Luke and Jake. HTH

Mid Wales and I've only heard it pronounced Eye-rah (including from two people who have the name). My mum and grandmother are both first language Welsh and both also so Eye-rah. I don't think either pronunciations are incorrect.
