DH and I are expecting twin girls. DH is French but they will be raised mostly in the UK. Our favourite names right now are Alma & Inès.
What's everyone's thoughts?
Full names we are thinking Alma Manon and Inès Maria.

Middle names are rarely used. The names are nice.
I don't like Alba at all.

I like Alma, I've never known one of any age so not dated for me. Nice sound.

Manon doesn't flow with the middle name. Maybe more Catherine, Genevieve, Clemence, Natalie, Louise etc.

Ines I get confused with the pronunciation, I think after watching Hairspray too many times (where it's eye-nezz). I think with French pronunciation it's more ee-ness? That's nicer.

Here (admittedly with a Merseyside accent) it's usually ih-ness.

You are going to have to live with people missing the è accent off Inès. If you don't have the è, it's pronounced Eenus.

Slol · 18/11/2024 19:01

Love the name Alma, I live in Spain and know a few.

wafflesmgee · 18/11/2024 19:02

I love them both

MorettiForMargo · 18/11/2024 19:05

Love Ines (and Manon) but Alma is very much a not cool old lady name in my neck of the UK, along the lines of Bertha, Morag and Ethel. Makes me think of Alma in Coronation Street and one of the Australian soaps.

MumonabikeE5 · 18/11/2024 19:09

Perfect. Job done. Enjoy them.

charltonred · 18/11/2024 19:27

Love them both however I really don’t like Alma with Manon, do you have any other options for middle names?

Mipil · 18/11/2024 19:39

Ines and Manon are beautiful. I love them both. Alma is okay and I suppose it works well with Ines I don’t think it works well with Manon though. I much prefer Alba. Maria is lovely as a first name but it always seems like a generic filler name when it’s a middle name.

I love Louise but it is very unpopular on MN!

StormingNorman · 18/11/2024 19:50

Ines and Alma are beautiful individually and as a pair.

sel2223 · 19/11/2024 06:15

Alma and Ines and both beautiful names, they sound great together!

Marion is my grandmother's name so I'm a fan but not with Alma i'm afraid..... it's the tongue tying ma-ma sound

YourBrightBiscuit · 21/11/2025 04:30

Just seen this and laughed as I have 3.5 year old twin girls called….. Alma and Inès (also French spelling as French father). Still love both names and get lots of compliments on the names. Alma has more recently become the no. 1 name for girls born in Paris so maybe a bit more popular than I’d like now but still not too popular in the UK for anyone considering in 2025/6.
Inès needs the accent in French (otherwise would be pronounced ‘in’ ) although it then does have a different emphasis from the Spanish name which goes up with the second syllable. I’m not fussed if people just write Ines, and often won’t bother to use the accent myself when texting etc

But anyway, what are the odds!

garlictwist · 21/11/2025 04:32

I really like Manon. But I don’t think Alma Manon works as a combo.

AllFours · 21/11/2025 04:42

Ines is lovely; Alma will definitely be drawing the short straw! Sorry, but it’s just not as interesting or beautiful - it’s mushy in the mouth, especially when paired with Manon.

LivingTheDreamish · 21/11/2025 04:42

Another vote for Ines and Alba. I don't dislike Alma it just feels a bit less special.

Overtheatlantic · 21/11/2025 04:55

I think Beatrice is much better with Ines. Beatrice Manon could work beautifully.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 21/11/2025 07:06

I really don’t like Alma. Manon is lovely, maybe make that her first name?

NameChange30 · 21/11/2025 07:52

This thread is a year old, people!

lynnebenfieldshandbag · 21/11/2025 07:59

I would go for Manon and Ines personally, but I think Alma is lovely too. It’s just a bit “old lady” outside France.

CruCru · 21/11/2025 08:41

I absolutely love Alma.

Inès is a lovely name but if someone gets the accent or pronunciation wrong, will it annoy you? I know a Spanish Inés, is that pronounced differently?

I'llBuyThatForADollar · 21/11/2025 08:50

I love those names. And thet go very well together

okydokethen · 21/11/2025 08:50

They go beautifully together

Chichichochi · 21/11/2025 09:47

I love, especially Alma, I’ve never heard it before.

okydokethen · 21/11/2025 10:18

@NameChange30ops! I wonder what the babies are called!

DoubleYellows · 21/11/2025 10:19

Both lovely.

(And I can’t remember when I last said that on a baby names thread! Good taste, OP.)
