Brother for Ophelia

Really struggling as we feel it should be a similar -ish name but don’t like names like Atticus or Agamemnon.

We like Guy, Jasper and Heath so far. Any better suggestions?!

Jasper and Heath both sound out well with Ophelia. So would:
Nicholas
Alexander
Conrad
Lucian
Tristan
Aubrey
Sebastian
Damien
Peter

You were seriously considering Agamemnon? Have you ever read any Greek myths? He murders one of his daughters, Iphigenia, and then is murdered in turn by his wife, Clytemnestra.

SunshineAfterTheRainR · 13/11/2024 22:12

@SqueakyDinosaur i said I didn’t like it 😂 no we clearly weren’t considering Agamemnon

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone!

I know a horrid little Lucian so that’s out for me. Tristan reminds me of “triste” and sadness for some reason I can’t get past. Peter has a bad meaning in a language we use. Nicholas and Alexander don’t feel special enough to me, maybe I just know too many of them.

Laertes just doesn’t feel usable (unfortunately 😂). Theodore is lovely but farrrr too popular. Arthur is brilliant but too popular for me I think too. Lysander feels slimey…

To be be honest, if you've got an Ophelia or an Ottilie, you're not that bothered at names that are too popular. So on that basis, Hugo?

OtterOnAPlane · 13/11/2024 22:18

If I was brave enough I'd go full-on Anglo-Saxons. (Athelstan, nn Stan or Edred, nn Ed?)

It's not the same era as Ophelia of course, but somehow has the same vibe

SunshineAfterTheRainR · 13/11/2024 22:21

@LePetitMaman was that supposed to come across rudely? 😂 I dislike Hugo but thank you

I’m warming to Ivor actually, that may be madness

Heath is lovely and has a similarly romantic feel to Ophelia imo. Tristan might have a similar vibe?

But otherwise I feel like Ophelia generally works best with a longer siblings name (at least 3 syllables) - so something like Sebastian, Alexander, Maximilian, Benedict, Nathaniel, Gabriel etc

Or perhaps something like Caspian if you want to continue the obvious literary route. Or Orlando to stick with the Shakespearean (and cute matching initials).

I think my favourite name from Shakespeare might actually be Malcolm 😆 probably not what you're looking for.

Similar vibe maybe Felix, Sebastian, Edmund, Rollo, Cedric, Timothy, Stefan, Dominic, Benedict.

SunshineAfterTheRainR · 13/11/2024 22:50

@BootballJoy Cedric is brillliant. I like Benedict too actually. Thank you!

Right I’m taking the new list to DH: Guy, Jasper, Heath, Ivor, Cedric, Caspian , Benedict

I will see what he thinks
