It sort of like making their surname longer, in a way. The middle name goes from being something distinguishing, to being a family name.

I think its fine, if thats what you both want. Any option to use your maiden name?

My kids both have "Name Middle Name MyMaidenName Surname" and any other kids we have will have my Maiden name as 2nd Middle name as well. Any idea there?

Astrophe · 30/04/2008 08:58

I mean "Name-MiddleName-MyMaidenName-Surname (DH's)"

SandyDennyWasAGreatSinger · 30/04/2008 09:10

practically all the women in my family over 40 on both sides have Mary as their middle name. yep, we're Catholic.

nailpolish · 30/04/2008 09:13

i actually like the idea of all chldren having the same middle name

my friend did it and i like it

Psychomum5 · 30/04/2008 09:34

my sons have the same middle name....

all the men in both sides of our families in fact have the same middle name - John!

my girls don;t, but that is because I hate my middle name with an absolute passion and could not inflict it upon them....for fear of reprisal's from them later!

I don;t see the problem really.....they are still unique enough with their first name anyway

I don't think it would be silly at all. A relative's boys have the same middle name because it was her maiden name - Ross. My ds has it as his first name because it was also my granny's maiden name - and because we liked it!

Tommy · 30/04/2008 11:22

another Catholic family here - my sisters ad I all have Mary as a second name

Not silly at all

MrsMattie · 30/04/2008 11:23

me and my sister both have my mum's maiden name as our middle name

Bimblin · 30/04/2008 11:40

My sons both have my maiden name as a middle name. I like it.

Bobz · 01/05/2008 12:23

My 2 DSs both have my maiden name as their middle name & I like it. You could try reversing their names e.g. Georgia for a girl & Louis for a boy?

choccypig · 01/05/2008 12:26

If its a boy, he could have Louis or Lewis. If a girl Georgia, or Georgina.

Or you could do something based on your maiden name?

I don't think its fair for some siblings to have middle names and some not by the way.

smartiejake · 01/05/2008 13:15

Both my dds have the same middle name. But it is more like a surname than a christian name (Old scottish clan name from dhs ancestory)

specialmagiclady · 01/05/2008 21:05

My family all have the same middle name. Most of them also have another one, but my parents couldn't think of another one for me. Bastards. I have a boy's middle name.

Hulababy · 01/05/2008 21:07

I would find it a bit unusual these days.

How about using the first name of one of the older children as the midle name - if you want to keep the middle name as one with a special connection. Or the name of a grandparent or other close relation, or a god parent?

sophiewd · 01/05/2008 21:13

No, me and my sisters all have Mary somewhere, boys all have Joseph

slapheadsrock · 01/05/2008 21:30

I recently heard of twins who have the same middle name - Sweetheart.

Not sure what to make of that one!

pinkorblue · 02/05/2008 19:41

Have read this thread quickly so not sure if I've got this right. I understand it to be:

DS's middle name is DH's middle name, and DD's middle name is your middle name.

If so, how about using your or DH's first name as DC3's middle name?

Thankyouandgoodnight · 06/05/2008 14:12

We might also end up with this issue...

If you think you may stop at 3 DCs, then how about giving a girl your maiden-name as it's middle name or the same middle name as a sibling of yours?

chisigirl · 06/05/2008 14:26

not silly. a nice connection between your children, imo.

worley · 06/05/2008 14:29

my dp and his brother both have their fathers name as their middle name.
they dont think anything of it, just sil and i think its a little weird. (and is the butt of many of our jokes!!)
now ds1 has the same middle name but i refused ti let ds2 have the same middle name and we had to give him my dads name as his middle name just to keep him happy as he was very upset that we didnt give ds1 his name!!! (fil has past away which is why dp wanted to give ds1 his name as a middle name)

iyswim!!!
