Name sense check

ThelastRolo20 · 11/11/2024 10:19

I'm having another girl this coming January and we're fairly set on a name, just want to sense check it as it always feels like such a big choice!

Her elder sister is called Georgina (Georgie) and we're fairly sure on the name Jessica but wondered if it's a bit dated (given popularity in the 90's/ 00's) or whether it's considered a classic and would work okay! Middle name will be Bridget.

Thanks!

Jessica is a beautiful and classic name that has stood the test of time.

MinPinSins · 11/11/2024 18:44

There were 10 times more babies being called Jessica in the mid 90s than now - in that sense, it's definitely dated.

It doesn't stop it being a nice name, but it's definitely associated with a particular age group - so is dated.

It's fine, but it was popular about 30 years ago. I like it.

Your daughters names will sound lovely together

ThelastRolo20 · 11/11/2024 20:33

Thanks everyone - I like the fact there aren't loads of girls called Jessica at the moment, and it seems it's "classic" enough to still be used! I'll probably use Jess as the shortened version so they'll be Georgie and Jess ❤️

The two names go well together.

i don’t think it as dated, but more ‘I haven’t heard of any young Jessica’s recently’.

Of course it is, it's a shakespearean name. I'd put it in the same category as Imogen.

Porgy and Bess?

Knew it reminded me of something. Now I wonder if it’s a troll post…?

Not a troll post and knew nothing about this 😂 I'm not convinced enough people will know about this to be an issue?

Maybe I'll stick with Jessie rather than Jess in case.

@ThelastRolo20 , Porgy doesn't rhyme with Georgie

resm · 13/11/2024 23:06

I think it’s a great name and love the shortening Jess. To me, it’s classic and timeless yet also sounds refreshing on a wee newborn today. You should definitely go for it if you love it!

It’s dated for me. I’d class it with Chloe and Kyle — those kinds of 90s names.

Edited

I don't as thinking of the name Chloe too. Both Jessica and Chloe are lovely names but they are were too popular in the 90s for me.

Charlotte120221 · 14/11/2024 11:47

great name - nice that there won't be lots of them - very similar vibe to the names we considered....

ThelastRolo20 · 14/11/2024 16:43

Thanks all 🙂 @Charlotte120221 out of interest which other names did you consider?
