Baby girl name help please!

Hi everyone,

After years of infertility and IVF, I’m delighted that I’m finally 36 weeks pregnant, but somehow, even after all this time,
we still can’t decide on names! We don’t know gender, but if baby is a boy, he’ll be either William (Billy/Bill) or Otto.
If baby is a girl, we’re stuck. To start with our girls name list was so much longer, but as we’ve gone through, none of them have seemed to stick like our top boy names.
I’ll share our list and would love any input or alternatives, please. We don’t want anything extremely popular (ie top 10). Surname sadly rules out anything ending with “s” or “x” sounds (shame as I love both Alice and Alexandra!)

Penelope (current favourite)
Josephine
Phoebe
Elizabeth (though we can’t agree on preferred nicknames)
Margot (with nn Maggie)

Thanks x

Elodie

You can't go wrong with Elizabeth. She could be:

Beth, Betsy, Eliza, Ellie, Betty etc

Love Penelope, nn Penny

Penelope is gorgeous. Have you considered Persephone?

BoleynMemories13 · 11/11/2024 06:45

Do you need to agree on a preferred nickname for Elizabeth? People can have more than one nickname. She'll soon decide which she prefers when she's old enough, or may even opt for a different one entirely.

Could Eliza be an alternative as a given name?

I really like Phoebe and it seems to have the right balance of being well known but not ridiculously popular. Personally, I would avoid Penelope and Margot if you don't want popular. They are two of the biggest current rising trends and, with official data only available up to 2022 right now, you could find they are actually a lot more popular than you'd like.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone, some great suggestions very in keeping with style we like. Some have already been rejected by DH hence not on list (including Eliza, which has been my absolute favourite for years.. and Felicity, which I also love), but others to add.
Also @BoleynMemories13 good point on the data, I wish it was more up to date!
