I’m expecting a boy in December, who will have an older sister, Willow.

what do people think of the name Blake for a boy? What do you think when you hear the name?

TIA,
Undecided Mum!

I like it and it goes with Williw. I see it as a boys name.

carly2803 · 05/11/2024 21:29

nope
the type of name people have to repeat twice to "get it"
slightly chavvy too

Fontainebleau007 · 05/11/2024 21:57

I have one. Love his name :)

Fontainebleau007 · 05/11/2024 22:00

Also the people saying it's a "chavvy" name. I have to disagree.

mathanxiety · 05/11/2024 22:04

Very harsh sound and reminds me of American TV series of the 80s.

Not nice with your DD's name imo. I'd choose something with a softer sound -
Elliott
Fraser
Griffin

I don't MIND it but I dont know if Ble and Ache are aesthetically pleasing sounds.
I'm one of those who doesn't like Amelia because of Mealy.

HildaHosmede · 06/11/2024 08:25

This is what I think of. You wanna go to war Balakey?

Nice.

id imagine with both name choices, you enjoy the poems of William Blake:en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Blake

pinkpjamas1 · 06/11/2024 08:30

Sorry, no I don't like it. I'm biased. Had an awful awful housemate called Blake for some time. And it rhymes too well with flake.

Sandandsea123 · 06/11/2024 08:46

I really like it! It’s a lovely name for a baby / child and will be nice name for an adult!

pinotgrigeeeeo · 06/11/2024 10:43

I like it.

I also like Blair

BlaBlaBla87436780087 · 08/11/2024 17:56

quite chavvy - willow is lovely so I’d go for a similar soft name

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 08/11/2024 18:16

I think Blake is a lovely and gentle name. I have a very non chavvy friend (admittedly not in the UK) with a handsome, intelligent, charming son called Blake so maybe I'm biased for that reason.

muddyford · 08/11/2024 18:21

Makes me think of the space series, 'Blake's Seven '.

multicolouredbunting · 08/11/2024 18:30

I have a Blake. He's such a beautiful boy. He was the only one in his primary school. Not a very popular name around here, which I like, and I don't think it's chavvy at all. (Obviously, as I chose it🤣)

Justleaveitblankthen · 08/11/2024 18:32

I immediately thought of Blake Carrington.
It's not a bad name though. 🙂

Cannotgetyou · 08/11/2024 18:33

Sounds American (and a little bit common) to me.

RogueFemale · 10/11/2024 01:20

As per a PP, Blake makes me think of Amy Winehouse's druggy husband. It's not a classy name to give a baby.

ODFOx · 10/11/2024 01:33

There was a US soap opera back in the 80s (not Dallas but in the same vein) where the Patriarch was called Blake Carrington. I never saw a single episode but the guy who played Blake was the voice of Charlie in Charlie's Angels.
That's the only Blake I know.

ODFOx · 10/11/2024 01:34

TLDR: I can't imagine the name on a child.

Ilovemyshed · 05/11/2024 19:03

I'm too old... Blake's Seven 😂

Yeah - I'm too old as well as Blake's 7 and Blake Carrington from Dynasty were the first things that popped into my head 😂

BungleandGeorge · 10/11/2024 02:01

I think it’s a perfectly fine name, no strong feelings (which I think is no bad thing for a name!), I’d more commonly associate it with being a surname so would be in that category for me, similar to Taylor, Mackenzie, Tyler, Elliott, Jackson etc.

Happyinarcon · 10/11/2024 02:08

I like it. It was on my short list. It doesn’t have a chavvy association where I live

AutumnColours9 · 10/11/2024 02:13

I really like it.

Newbornhaze · 11/11/2024 06:35

I like it but I do think of Blake Lively first when I hear it
