I like Ruby but not keen on Jade. Also think they're a bit "matchy"

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 05/11/2024 18:17

Too matchy, unless maybe, you're a geologist or jeweller. When it becomes matchy and twee.

DD was once friends with sisters called Scarlett, Ruby and Sienna. I thought that was a bit matchy too.

Skybluepinky · 05/11/2024 18:19

Very 90’s, what are the other options?

FoxLoxInSox · 05/11/2024 18:22

Too matchy / gimmicky
Too 90’s
Jade slightly tacky
Red / green hair bows = 🤢

Nikitaspearlearring · 05/11/2024 18:25

I like Ruby and Jade. I don't think they're too matchy. In the olden days ( in my youth) twins were given really matchy names like Milly and Molly, so I think you're fine.

Congratulations, by the way. I have twins and the first year was bonkers! But worth it in lots of ways xx

EducatingArti · 05/11/2024 18:26

To be fair, I know 5 year old identical twins and the reception teachers are finding the different colour hair bobbles really helpful. The colours don't match their names though!

Princessfluffy · 05/11/2024 18:27

I had aunts who were sisters called Ruby and Pearl.

Bubblebuttress · 05/11/2024 18:35

Love the gem names

Ruby Jade Pearl Amber

One of our children had three girls in his primary class called Ruby. There was a lot if singing Ruby, Ruby, Ruby lala la lala. I wouldn't just for that reason.

Very outing, but 17/18 years ago,28 of us school mums all fell pregnant around the same time (the births where all between the july to the sept)

27 where girls-one boy

All where called Ruby, bar my dd and my friends dd

The Kaiser chiefs have a lot to answer for!

It's a nice name-i work with one but it's massively overused

mum1345 · 05/11/2024 19:58

Ruby is a very pretty name.
My 3 year old is called it and often gets positive comments on it.
It's definitely no where near as popular as it was early 00s
I am yet to come across another one her age in preschool, baby group etc so don't let popularity deter you.

I'm not so keen on Jade but I do think they work well as a pairing though! If you love them go for it!

LittleHangleton · 05/11/2024 20:14

Jade is less 'precious' than Ruby. This would put me off. I like matchy-matchy though.

Ruby and Scarlet
Daisy and Poppy

It’s giving Ruby and Garnet from Double Act! I don’t like it OP, sorry.

Omg that book 🤣 Looks lighthearted but was pretty depressing if I remember correctly, I think I read it when I was about 10!

That said, I do love Ruby and Jade together. I met someone with twins Ruby and Poppy which I also thought was a cute red theme.

ThePoshUns · 05/11/2024 21:01

I think they go nicely together.

BodenCardiganNot · 05/11/2024 21:02

Years ago I worked with a woman who had twins - Ruby and Jade. She then went on to have Pearl!

salamithumbs · 05/11/2024 21:14

I'm not that keen on Jade but I don't thinking two jewels are too matchy! I love the name Amber if that's a possibility?

Laalaalaand · 05/11/2024 21:17

They're not a pair of poodles. Having matchy names for twins is awful.

RuthW · 05/11/2024 21:17

UltramarineViolet · 05/11/2024 14:50

Not awful by any means but the combination is a bit twee and also feels a bit dated (90s/00s)

Exactly this

MerryChristmasToYou · 05/11/2024 21:22

Call them Ruby and Donna. They can dine out on it.

PiggieWig · 05/11/2024 21:22

I really like them. Jade isn’t as popular as it was 20 years ago, but the two young women I know called Jade are both really lovely, strong and a little bit quirky.

I think they go well together.

AcrobaticCardigan · 05/11/2024 21:28

I love the ‘jewel’ names & absolutely love both names. I think it’s nice to have different but connected names for twins & IMO two gem names is less matchy than two names starting with the same letter, which plenty of people do for siblings. You can’t please everyone! I heard of a Sapphire once, which I thought was a stunning name!

chattyness · 05/11/2024 21:40

Love them both O P , Opal goes well with Ruby

What!!! 20+ Ruby’s?!!

I like Ruby but not Jade. It's not a bad name in itself but the associations I have with it from people are common as muck/trashy. (And I'm def working class myself)
I'm not over keen on matching names for twins tbh, they are children, not pets. Pick 2 individual names you love.
I do like long names that have NN potential so the kids have the chance to pick a variation if they prefer it.

On your theme.

Amber
Opal

PiggieWig · 05/11/2024 21:53

I also like Scarlett which I think fits though maybe a bit too much red.
