Callie or Kallie, thoughts?

Expecting DD2 in a couple of months and would love a litmus test on the name Callie/Kallie. We went quite traditional/safe for our first daughter's name so wanted something a bit different (but not too different) for our second. DH absolutely loves Callie, but I wanted to check there aren't any weird associations before we go for it! It would also mean we have two 'ie' names, but not sure if that matters. Thank you ❤️

I love Callie.
It is very attractive to use it just as it is.

Or you could use Callidora or Caroline.
Carla and Carlie are nice names too.

Callie is lovely!

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 06/11/2024 08:18

The central character in a children’s book (Seaward, Susan Cooper) was Callie, short for Calliope. I like it.

Needanewname42 · 06/11/2024 08:20

My preferred spelling is Callie. I think people might miss hear it as Kelly.

I've not come across it as a name other than short form of Caledonia / Caledonian. Caledonia being an old name for Scotland and is used by various things Inverness Caly (fc) or Glasgow Caly (Uni)

Prefer Callie to Kallie (K versions of names often sound chavvy)

Prefer Calypso or Calista to Callie

Prefer Calypso or Calista to Callie

Calypso? Is that a typo?

TippledPink · 06/11/2024 13:44

I know a Callie, that's her full name. Much better than Kallie.

FayCarew · 06/11/2024 13:49

@sel2223 , no, it's a name from Greek mythology.

spiderlight · 06/11/2024 13:58

I prefer the Callie spelling. The one I know is short for Calliope.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 06/11/2024 14:01

Callie with a C. Short for Callista, not as a name in its own right though.

Kallie makes me think of the IKEA Kallax.

VioletCrawleyForever · 06/11/2024 14:06

Callie

WhereAreWeNow · 06/11/2024 14:09

Callie is lovely. It was on my list. Short for Calliope.

yikesanotherbooboo · 06/11/2024 14:36

I like Callie and would assume it to be a diminutive of Caroline.I don't like the K spelling and she would be forever correcting .

Overheater · 06/11/2024 14:37

Love the name. But prefer Callie over Kallie. For some reason Kallie is giving me kardashian vibes. I’m sorry!

JumpstartMondays · 06/11/2024 14:40

Callie 🫶

What about Calla, if you don't want another ie ending? I met a girl called Calla recently and have never heard that name before! Beautiful.

BibbityBobbityToo · 06/11/2024 14:43

Only association I would mention is it is used as a short version of Caledonia e.g the football team Caledonian Thistle is shortened to Callie Thistle. Maybe not an issue if you're no where near Scotland though.

I prefer the Callie spelling. The one I know is short for Calliope.

Same for me.

MamaFifi05 · 06/11/2024 21:29

Thanks so much everyone, glad there are no negative connotations with the C spelling. Callie is definitely the front runner 🥰

Callie is very pretty, although I’d probably assume it was a diminutive of something (maybe Caroline or Calista etc) as it’s not commonplace, but I suppose it’s no different to Hallie which is popular enough. I also think two “ee” ending names for siblings are no big deal, so I say go for it.

Don’t think I’ve ever seen Callie spelt with a K though (it’s not a well known variant like Catherine/Katherine), so I wouldn’t give her the extra hassle by doing that.

I have a “ Callie” she’ll be 21 in march ! Never known anyone else to have the same name , heard it a few times now on tv programs , I was trying to find a name I could shorten to Callie but didn’t like any so just went with Callie although she is actually Hyphenated , Callie-Louise and her dads family call her Callie-lou xx

Sheeparelooseagain · 07/11/2024 07:12

Definitely Callie.

FayCarew · 07/11/2024 08:06

Callie-lou sounds like callaloo

RobertaFirmino · 07/11/2024 22:47

Callie sounds warm and friendly. Kallie sounds like someone with an Only Fans page.
