I am thinking that i am coming 'round to the name Morag.
My 6 year old is reading the Katie Morag books at the moment and i have been thinking about this more and more.
dh is Scottish so it is nice for him, and i like the nn's Mo and Aggie.

Possible combinations:

Morag Susannah
Morag Juniper
Morag Eileen
Morag Primrose
Morag Ophelia

I am not expecting a wonderfully positive response! My dd loves it though!

Susannah's a lovely name. Just don't let people shorten it to Sue.

ButterflyMcQueen · 25/04/2008 21:20

I bloody love it. Excellent strong, quirky but classic name. It's so anti-fashion, but not in a ridiculous that is not a name way. It's the new Esme.

ViolentFemme · 25/04/2008 21:48

Love it

expatinscotland · 25/04/2008 21:49

Morgag the toerag

CristinaTheAstonishing · 25/04/2008 21:53

How to you pronounce it? If it's the way it's written I'm not too keen on it. If it's more like Moira then not too keen on that either. I think there are prettier names around.

scottishmummy · 25/04/2008 21:59

Great scottisg name

AbbeyA · 25/04/2008 21:59

I don't like it at all, I remember a friend having it as her middle name and she always tried to keep it a secret!

MrsJohnCusack · 25/04/2008 22:16

MOrag 'barmy-tombstone' is a GREAT name

from the middle names Susannah prob best but have a sneaking liking for Juniper too

pointydog · 25/04/2008 22:28

I find Morag a heavy, sturdy, old-fashioned name. Will probably become very fashionable again soon, though.

Morag Eileen best combination.

AbbeyA · 26/04/2008 07:50

Susannah is nice-why not have Susannah Morag?

branflake81 · 26/04/2008 07:52

I like it. It's different without being "deliberately weird" if you see what I mean. I'm not sure it's a pretty name, but a nice one

cyteen · 27/04/2008 16:54

Morag Susannah is a rocking good name. Morag is strong, interesting and overdue a revival IMO, and Susannah is just the best name ever anywhere

AitchTwoCiao · 27/04/2008 16:56

there was a girl in the year above me called morag, i always thought it was one of the ugliest names i ever heard and felt profoundly sorry for her. it sounds revolting with a glasgow accent. mow-raaaaaaaaaaaaaagg.

DrNortherner · 27/04/2008 16:57

I don't think Morag isa pretty name at all. IMO it is too harsh and foe some reason reminds me of hoem and away....

Indith · 27/04/2008 17:14

I love it

Now what on earth was that book called? Read it as a child, involved an ill girl staying at her gran's, there was a doll and when she went to sleep holding the doll she would "relive" her great, great aunt's past or something as they travelled across the prarie. She died I think, saving her little sister, who got the doll which was then handed down through the generations......

That is going to bug me!

turquoise · 27/04/2008 17:16

I think it's rather sweet for a little girl, conjures up a less appealing woman for me though for some reason.

Indith · 27/04/2008 17:23

yay found it!

Anyway the girl in it is called Meg/Morag. That is what I thought of not Home and Away

Mhamai · 27/04/2008 17:31

My dd is Sarah which is the English translation of Morag. Although the Gaelic translation means great.

narkymum · 27/04/2008 18:21

my dh also scottish i like it and it would prob be shortened to aggs or mo what is your dd called has she got a scottish name. My son has a very very scottish name that was met with a lot of when we told people but we love it

cheekymonk · 27/04/2008 18:32

Sorry think it is awful...

Janni · 27/04/2008 18:38

It's not terrible. I think Morag Susannah is best as the Susannah softens the hard g at the end of Morag and your other options sound a bit old ladyish

TakeMeHome · 27/04/2008 23:10

I like Morag, but I do know someone who called their cat Morag. It was a nice cat though. Juniper just reminds me of Life of Brian.

expatinscotland · 27/04/2008 23:11

we have a neighbour called Morag.

she's auld.
