Polly or Zara?

Just found out baby no3 is a girl. Already have two boys with traditional names. We are between two names Polly and Zara. Which do you prefer? Middle name will be Jean after family member

Zara for me. Polly sounds way too 'cutesie' or twee.

Zara Jean is very cool 😎

Dollybantree · 24/10/2024 15:04

Two extremes there: one a maids name, one a princess!

Polly always reminds me of a parrot or farts (“who let polly out of prison”)!🤣

Zara is nice and classy with no negative connotations.

Justlikejessiesgirl · 24/10/2024 15:07

I do prefer Zara by far but Zara Jean sounds similar to Zara Jeans as in Jeans from the clothes shop Zara. Or am I looking into it too much?! Could there be another middle name in between the Zara and Jean?

Needanewname42 · 24/10/2024 15:10

Zara Jean isn't as bad as Polly Jean (polythene) well spotted to the poster that clocked that one. Because once you hear it you can't unhear it.

Scutterbug · 24/10/2024 15:11

Polly. Can’t stand Zara.

Salmonfortea · 24/10/2024 15:21

Polly

UltramarineViolet · 24/10/2024 15:25

I love both!

WinnieMaudPeggy · 24/10/2024 15:28

Love Polly but DH vetoed it. Definitely Polly

RuthW · 24/10/2024 16:53

Both nice. I love Polly.

RedRobyn2021 · 24/10/2024 17:02

Both are nice

I think Zara Jean if I had to choose

marshmallowfinder · 24/10/2024 17:06

Zara.

Retrievemysanity · 24/10/2024 17:08

Zara by a mile.

FayCarew · 24/10/2024 18:07

Polly. I know lots of Zaras. Both names are nice.

Nicebloomers · 24/10/2024 19:43

Polly is too cutesy for me and Zara too fashion shop. Penelope nn penny? Or what about Sarah?

FayCarew · 24/10/2024 19:53

I don't find Polly cutesy at all. I think it sounds quite no-nonsense.

helibirdcomp · 24/10/2024 20:27

Nooo neither - Polly is a parrot and Zara sells women's clothes. Liked the idea of Poppy as an alternative.

OopsieeDaisy · 24/10/2024 21:34

Much prefer Zara, it’s much cooler than Polly and works well for all ages.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 24/10/2024 21:40

Zara is pretty and I think would be an easy name to live with, so would be my choice of the two. I can’t help but feel you’d need to be really cool to pull off Polly - as it’s so linked to childish things (Polly Pocket, the Parrot, Miss Polly had a Dolly). It would be great on the right girl though!

bearfood · 24/10/2024 21:43

I have a 16 year old Polly and I did worry it wouldn't suit a teen when she was tiny, but it's actually really does and she's never met another.

ThatWhiteElephant · 24/10/2024 21:56

Love Zara, do not like Polly.

Borris · 24/10/2024 22:12

Definitely Zara, polly is not for me

salamithumbs · 24/10/2024 22:47

Zara!

MagicianMoth · 24/10/2024 22:53

FestiveBakewell · 24/10/2024 12:05

I always think of which one id rather be called and that would be Zara out of the two.

I always think that too and for me it’s Polly!

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 24/10/2024 23:41

Polly x

Polly. Can’t stand Zara.

Same. Zara just sounds too....blunt to me. Sharp and blunt.

Polly sounds lovely.
