Hi all,

I posted before asking for name help. Older sister called Violet. Now back with a shortlist - with thanks to those who gave lots of suggestions! Any additional suggestions appreciated!! Surname ends in -y so for me that rules out names ending in -y like Emily as it sounds very samey when said together.

Girls: (second name will be Georgina)

Alice
Lia
Clara
Eloise
Mabel
Robin

Boys:

Oliver
James
Rowan
Evan
Noah
Neal

I live Alice, Clara, Oliver and James. Beautiful timeless names

BootballJoy · 21/10/2024 13:45

I like Mabel best for a girl, although Clara is also nice.

My favourite boy's name on your list is Robin. I really like it for a boy, not so much for a girl.
Otherwise I'd probably go for Evan or Rowan.

Moreteaandchocolate · 21/10/2024 13:51

I like all of your ideas, especially Alice, Lia, Clara, Mabel for a girl, or James, Evan, Noah or Neal for a boy. Alice, Clara and Mabel have a similar vintage and classy vibe to Violet to me. And I like how Evan contains a V like Violet.

@BootballJoy i am starting to like Mabel a lot but I am worried as I struggled a lot with anxiety using the name Violet as I was worried it was a bit ‘out there’. I am a very strait laced standard person, so is my husband. I’d go so far as to say we are both a bit boring!!!

So I don’t know why I lean away from more ‘classic’ names! The last thing I need is to fall in love with Mabel as a name 😂

Violet and Mabel ? Nicer than Violet and Alice? Or Violet & Lia …

I also like Robin for a boy. Rowan is my second choice.

Alice is lovely with Violet so that’s my first choice for a girl. Also like Mabel.

MagicianMoth · 21/10/2024 13:56

I love Mabel, Eloise and Robin for a girl and James and Noah for a boy.

I think personally the name Eloise is the prettiest but she would become Ellie and there are so many Ellies that I would go for Mabel. And James for a boy.

I don't think Mabel is out there, my 17 year old boy (who has one of your listed names, I wonder which Grin ) has a friend called Mabel. [And my 15 year old has a friend called Violet] And there's a young-ish Mabel in Only Murders In the Building.

Blackcountryexile · 21/10/2024 13:59

I think all your boys names are lovely.
I think Alice and Mabel go best with Georgina and sound nice with Violet, When I was choosing names for DD a long time ago I loved the name Scarlett but discounted it because it seemed out there. A few years went by and every other baby girl was named Scarlett!

My picks would be:
Clara or Eloise
Oliver or Evan.

I’m personally not really a fan of Mabel, but it seems I’m in the minority, and it is certainly becoming popular at the moment so don’t worry about it being too “out there” if it’s a name you love.

I like non -a ending name if middle end with -a, and I would rule out Eloise because i sound in Eloise Georgina kinda rhyme, if you're pronouncing it same as I do.

I do like Alice and Violet and I think Alice Georgina is very beautiful

I also love Mabel and Violet and to me Mabel is classic name just different type of classic compared to straight lace type... to me Mabel is rustic, preppy (meaning colorful/classy/nice), girl next door kinda classic.

Mumofgirls2017 · 21/10/2024 17:22

Definitely Rowan for a boy, love it with Violet too.

Clara, Eloise, Mabel and Alice I all love!

Siblingnamehelp · 21/10/2024 18:27

@Mumofgirls2017 I love Rowan too but thinking maybe two nature related names would be too much! Plus I think DH might need some convincing.

I agree @Moreteaandchocolate I like that Evan has a V.

Rowan( my DS is 26)
Alice was my girl name( had boys)
So I vote for those!
Nice name list

Liv999 · 21/10/2024 21:33

For a girl I love Robyn spelt with a y, and also Mabel, for a boy Evan is lovely and Rowan is nice too

User12356 · 21/10/2024 21:39

All the names are lovely.
My favorites are Clara and Evan.

Siblingnamehelp · 22/10/2024 13:53

Thanks everyone. Glad no one has said anything majorly negative about the names.the choice will be picking which ones to go for. I haven’t run this list past DH so hopefully he will be in favour of some of them. Nice to hear about others who called their kids the same name or had the names on their list. I enjoy looking at names but found the actual decision caused me a lot of upset last time worrying about it so I’m hoping to avoid that this time round.

Lovely list @Siblingnamehelp

For boys I love Oliver, James and Evan. James in particular is a really classy but not overdone choice and would be my top pick.
I agree with your concern that Rowan is too nature themed with Violet. Also now that Roman with M is in the top 20-30 baby names and still rising I think the confusion "Rowan or Roman?" would annoy me. I know about 5 baby boys called RoMan. But none over aged 5. Very trendy unlike a classic like James.

For girls I love Alice, Eloise and Clara. Top choice Alice

Latevictorianpleasureseeker · 25/10/2024 13:22

Clara or Oliver

Moo31 · 25/10/2024 13:29

I like Oliver because it is nearly the same letters as Violet. My boys boys have a run of 3 letters the same in their names but very different names.

Manchesterbythesea · 25/10/2024 13:32

Alice or Noah

Siblingnamehelp · 25/10/2024 20:21

@Moo31 do you know I never realised that!! You’re right - only one letter out which is crazy!

Thanks @YourDenimUser

Some lovely girls and boys names there. However, Neal is too like 'kneel' to me.

OopsieeDaisy · 25/10/2024 22:30

Alice Georgina is lovely. From your boys list, James, Noah and Rowan are my favourites.
