My DH was a SS fan in his yoof and our surname is the same as a character he played = DH said (jokingly?) shall ew call it X (first name of said character) ummm no!

Nico is much nicer than Luca, which is becoming a bit chavtastic, especially on non-Italians.

I taught a Domenico, shortened to Nico. He had Italian heritage. I think it is lovely.

Nico or Luca are 2 possibles if my baby is a boy - the dad is half italian so I think it will go OK
