Are these names too similar?

Cedric and Cecilia. Already have a Cecilia, and I’m starting to grow fond of Cedric, but not sure if they’re too similar or not. Other names on the list:

Henry
Sebastian
Louis
Simon
William
Beckett

Also - do you think I could get away with the nickname Wilf with William instead of Wilfred? Really like Wilf but not huge on Wilfred :(

What about William Frederick nn Wilf...

I would still use Cedric and Cecilia, they are not too similar to me.

They are quite similar but not prohibitively so. How about :
Reuben
Inigo
Casper
Barnaby

I know a Wilfred that is only know as Will, but I don't think most people would naturally shorten William to Wilf naturally like most nicknames.

If Cedric is your favourite name, I'd choose it because it isn't hugely similar to Cecilia. Although a name with a different initial would probably be better. It isn't generally an issue though. I know an Isabel and an Isaac and no problem there.

I like Cedric too! It's a little similar to Cecilia but ok imo.

I don't like Wilfred much

How about

Quentin
Vincent
Clement
Marcus

I know a young Wilf who is just Wilf, no longer name.

BootballJoy · 19/10/2024 17:28

Cedric goes nicely with Cecilia though, I'd go for that.

Cecilia is gorgeous and elegant but Cedric is awful, sorry. It’s a real nerdy Harry Potter style/ fantasy/ medieval role play type name to me.

All the other names on your list are far nicer but I especially love classic William and Henry.

I don’t see why Wilf couldn’t be used as a nn for William -especially if you used Frederick for a middle name or similar (I nearly did the same for my William as I love Wilf/Wilfie too - but good job I didn’t bother as he insists on the full William!)
