Tallulah or Jessica?

Our baby is due any time soon and we are still not decided on a girls name (have chosen a boys).

Jessica we like as it's traditional and flexible (able to shorten), but maybe a little too 'safe' as a choice.

We also like Tallulah, again an old traditional name and flexible, but we are not sure if it's a little bit too unusual.

Please shared some opinions with me to help us decide!

I think Jessica is the nicer, too. Tallulah just not so pretty. And I like Jess for a teenager; I know a really cool teenage Jess

To lou33 - how old is your Tallulah and has she ever had any negative experiences with her name. Genuinely interested because it is our first choice name for our girl - due tomorrow......!

vicsta · 21/04/2008 19:57

Jessica. 'Fraid Tallulah doesn't do anything for me. Sorry. Like Talia though.

msappropriate · 21/04/2008 19:59

I love Tallulah. I taught a lovely one.

Jessica always sounds a bit strait laced to me.

Ceelo · 21/04/2008 20:08

millions of girls are called jessica!!!

DrNortherner · 21/04/2008 20:12

My cat is called Tallulah

lou33 · 21/04/2008 21:13

sophie she is 11, this is the first time i have ever heard any negative comments about her name

its usually something along the lines of "what a pretty name" etc

it suits her, she is a delicate looking thing, a bit like a fairy

but really, it doesnt matter what anyone else thinks about a name, if you like it then use it

her middle name is daisy btw

lou33 · 21/04/2008 21:16

i mean never, sorry

sophiebbb · 21/04/2008 22:29

Thank you lou33 for replying. We are going to use it anyway . Tallulah Daisy is nice!!! We are going for an Italian middle name as DH is from there.

lou33 · 21/04/2008 22:31

i'm actually quite surprised by the reaction on here

makes no odds to me tho, each to their own, i still love the name

My bump is already called Lula!!

PortAndLemon · 21/04/2008 22:35

Like both names. Have you considered Tabitha? Just popped into my head as being vaguely similar to those two names.

sophiebbb · 21/04/2008 22:39

Hello PortandLemon! It is funny you mention that name because my sister was really keen to call her 'daughter' Tabitha (she ended up having 2 boys - and no more!!). I hated it at first but it has really grown on me and I like it now.

lou33 · 22/04/2008 00:37

my niece is called tabitha, shortened to tabi

most of tallulah's friends , and her sibs call her lula, but i generally call her by her full name, or lishy, which is a derivation of a nickname from when she was younger

SweetTea · 22/04/2008 10:17

There seems to be quite a mixed view on the two names! I'm still undecided!!

Jessica is lovely and won't age, and i do like the abbreviations.

I do like the fact that Tallulah is not in the top 50 girls names, and i really don't see it as being chavvy or celeb like!

Whatever the name, be it ordinary or a bit unusual, it's about the personality of the LO i suppose.....which is down to the parents!

Don't really like Tabitha, sorry!

I think Tallulah might be the next Shanice

BiancaCastafiore · 22/04/2008 10:22

Jessica

cazzybabs · 22/04/2008 10:27

Jessica - Tallulah is in the Maisy books

SweetTea · 22/04/2008 10:56

True.....but Maisy is very similar to Daisy which is now sooooo popular!

Nobody has mentioned yet that Jessica was the character name of Frank Spencer's daughter! Does that make it bad?

SweetTea · 22/04/2008 13:11

Perhaps Tallulah is out of some peoples comfort zone, making them opt for the more popular Jessica?

Jessica is fine, and I love Jessica Mitford, but the name seems to be v popular atm. I love the name Tallulah - don't think it's either chav or sleb. Good diminutives from both names - Jess, Jessie, Decca or Tallie, Lulu, Lulah etc.

Jessica. She'll thank you for it!

Love Tallulah really pretty and fun without being odd - Jessica is a bit boring
