Love the name Albert for a first name (mainly because this is the only name me and the Husband can agree on!) and Robert will always be the middle name. But does Albert Robert sound too similar?

Also I find it odd when people say the middle name is irrelevant, never used and doesn't need to flow.
Why bother with one at all if that's the case then?

I think a middle name should definitely 'flow" and not just be a 'filler' for the sake of having one. I love my daughters full name and use that, and her initials, regularly

MerryMarys · 24/09/2024 15:20

I too just see Bert Bert

mathanxiety · 24/09/2024 15:33

I agree with PPs - you need a second middle name to break up the Bert repetition.

Albert Arthur Robert
Albert Alexander Robert
Albert Alastair Robert

Albert Roland Robert
Albert Richard Robert
Albert Reuben Robert

I think repeating an initial in the middle 'disguises' or 'dilutes' the Bert repetition somehow.

BobbyBiscuits · 24/09/2024 15:39

It's too 'Bert'-y.
So maybe..
Alexander Robert
Archie Robert
Alistair Robert

Or Albert Robin
Albert Ruan
Albert Reggie

@sel2223 , I don't have one and neither do the DC.

PurpleChrayn · 24/09/2024 16:48

Too much -ert.

StopStartStop · 24/09/2024 16:53

Great names. I really like them. Try 'Albob' as a nn. Or Bertbert. Cute name for a toddler. Don't call your child Archie - you'll sound pathetic.

GilbertLeslieChesterton · 24/09/2024 16:57

I think it's fine. This kind of thing means a lot when you are thinking of the names but it matters less once the baby is born and you generally only use the first name.
I went to school with a Robert Roberts which was bad IMO because people say first and surnames together all the time. All the kids called him Two Bob!

Skybluepinky · 24/09/2024 17:00

Def not a good mix, either choose Albert or Robert but def not together.

Anisty · 24/09/2024 17:00

You can never have too many Berts!! I absolutely LOVE this name!

The only reason i don't have an Albert myself is because DH refused - i tried all the Bert names on him but only managed to get a Robert into one of our boy's middle names.

I used to have a female cat called Burt! I just love it so much. Brilliant name.

@sel2223 , I don't have one and neither do the DC.

My DH doesn't either and nor do any of his immediate family.

I definitely think if it's something that's not important to you when naming your child then why bother having one at all.

chocomoccalocca · 24/09/2024 18:48

Would you consider putting another name in between to break it up so Albert James Robert. For the record I have an Albert and another with the middle name Robert so get the appeal of both

Gillyyy · 26/09/2024 21:59

I think it doesn’t sound great.

Is it more important to use Robert for this child or Albert?

If you’re thinking of keeping the Robert, similar to Albert you could have:
Alfred Robert
Arthur Robert
Angus Robert

or if you’re sticking with Albert, some suggestions:
Albert Robin
Albert George
Albert Frederick
Albert Charles

BettyBardMacDonald · 26/09/2024 22:14

These were my grandpa & dad's names!

Grampy was Albert Robert
Dad was Robert Albert.

🙂

DS2 has a first name and middle name that don't sound great together because they share the same ending. But his middle name was non negotiable, and we liked his first name, and are happy that the two names are very rarely actually used together!

llamali · 26/09/2024 22:35

I don't like the double bert

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 26/09/2024 22:54

Also depends if your last name is Bertington (or similar) only you know how that surname sounds!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 28/09/2024 19:37

Does sound a bit odd yes- a bit like Isabelle Annabelle. Imo you can get away with names ending in the same letter but the same 4 letters is a bit much, even for rarely used middle names - especially when there’s an easy alternative of adding another middle name (and lots of people have 2 middle names - something else 2 syllable like Albert Edward Robert particularly sounds good imo). Or Alfred Robert would be lovely instead or you might like Albert Robin? (Robin is a traditional nn for Robert).
