My great grandma was called Maud and I always thought what an awful old name until the last few months and I’ve completely fallen in love with it!!

currently like;

Maude Elizabeth
Maude Penelope
Maude Vivienne
Maude Jacqueline
Maude Isabelle

I absolutely love old fashioned names 😅

what do you think

Please don't use the e.

Maud is a great traditional but fresh name. 'Come into the garden, Maud...'

Maude is a mess. Even if your grandmother spelled it like that I would go with 'Maud' -- the two names sound the same, so you needn't be unduly aware of the different spelling.

MerryMarys · 11/09/2024 22:31

It sounds so harsh and unfeminine. Also too similar to Mould

Katielovesteatime · 11/09/2024 22:32

I LOVE IT!!! Maude and Maud, I don’t care about the spelling. Maud/e Elizabeth and Maud/e Isabelle are beautiful. How about Maud/e Josephine?

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 11/09/2024 22:33

I really love it, but prefer it without the 'e'.

EconomyClassRockstar · 11/09/2024 22:33

I like it, especially with the e. Although "Mardy Maude" popped into my head but I don't really know if people still use the word, mardy, anymore!

DillDanding · 11/09/2024 22:34

I really love it but for a cat.

Toddlerteaplease · 11/09/2024 22:39

One of the worst 'old lady' names there is.

Sparklyhat · 11/09/2024 22:41

All I can think of is Maude Flanders sorry

Unfeminine. Why do girls' names have to be "feminine"? Ick.

Wonkywinky · 11/09/2024 22:42

Love it
Also similar is maeva

StormingNorman · 11/09/2024 22:42

The only Maude I know is French and I think it’s lovely.

Maude Alexandra
Maude Elizabeth
Maude Isobel

Viviennemary · 11/09/2024 22:43

It's dire. So unattractive sounding , harsh, clumsy and old fashioned.

Mabel made a comeback.

Mabel made a comeback.

That's just as bad. It will be Muriel and Doris next.

hpertrophywife · 11/09/2024 22:45

Love it.

clarrylove · 11/09/2024 22:58

Awful, sorry. Apparently my father wanted me to be called Maud, after a relative, but thankfully my mother vetoed it. I mean, would you like to be called it?

longdistanceclaraclara · 11/09/2024 23:41

Reminds me of the Worst Witch, not that that's a bad thing.

SunshineAndCloudy · 11/09/2024 23:45

I’ve just read the bookbinder of Jericho and Maude is in there

Needanewname42 · 11/09/2024 23:53

It's very clumpy to me. Clumpy like someone clumping around.

Sorry I don't see the attraction to it.

This (although I think it was without the E) . Great book series for young girls - and more useable than Mildred or Ethel!

Copperoliverbear · 11/09/2024 23:55

Love it, also love Elsie x

theduchessofspork · 11/09/2024 23:59

I like it, but I do think it’s marmite

I slightly prefer it with the e

MrsQuietLife · 11/09/2024 23:59

I still find it a dreary name, like Deidre or Nora.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 12/09/2024 00:01

Awful. So is Ethel.

Awful. So is Ethel.

Ethel needs a toy dog called Willie. 😛
