What are your thoughts and alternatives to the following names?

Paisley
Willow
Phoebe
Lainey
Esther
Sadie
Anwen

I really struggle with baby names and want the twins to have names that compliment each other. Open to suggestions.

I wouldn't pick Anwen with Gwennan. It would be like having sisters called Anne-Marie and Marianne.

CJones11 · 02/11/2024 15:22

Oh wow. I didn't expect there to be so much dislike towards Paisley. There are quite a few little girls in our area with that name who are utterly adorable. I guess not having the association with the Scottish Town helps.

I also don't see how Gwennan and Anwen are in any way similar. Gwenny and Annie are totally different 🤷‍♀️

Lainey is certainly the worst of the bunch and vetoed.

Willow is very popular in our area. Which kind of puts me off because our surname is common

Really liking Esther and Phoebe at the moment. I think they will be named after birth once we get to know their personalities more.

Still welcoming suggestions though.

My favourites from your list are Phoebe and Esther.
Do you have Welsh connections though? If so you might want to prefer Welsh names to complement your older daughter's name.

Edited

Yes, we are Welsh:)

Our girls ended up being called Phoebe Alys and Esther Maeve. Welsh and Irish links for their middle names.

Our daughter was just shy of two when they were born and called them Essie and Fifi, which has stuck as little nicknames.

To whoever suggested Tess as a variation for Esther, THANK YOU! I've always loved the name and am so glad the girls have names that can grow with them and have a few variations.

Phoebe and Esther are lovely.

ladygindiva · 16/07/2025 19:50

Phoebe and Esther have a great vibe together and are both lovely names. I also like Willow but don't feel it pairs with any of the others.

Esther and Phoebe. Others look like a litter of puppies.

Empress13 · 16/07/2025 19:53

What about Paige instead of Paisley which i think sounds masculine. Paige and Esther sounds nice

Whycantyouwhisper · 16/07/2025 19:53

@CJones11 Willow & Sadie / Sadie & Willow are gorgeous together! Really lovely but also pretty cool names for kids and adults.

wizzler · 16/07/2025 19:54

Like Phoebe Esther and Sadie from your list . How about Stacey, Erica and Fiona as alternatives

freerangethighs · 16/07/2025 19:57

Lainey for example is a 50 odd year old women named Elaine aka Lainey. Her twin is called Pamela or Bernadette (Bernie). Lainey is no 36 on the girls' name charts in the USA, up four from last year.

That said, I really like Phoebe, Willow, and Esther. Sadie is also OK, although I wouldn't pair it with Phoebe -- or you could do a more trad dynamic using Sara (or Sarah), Sadie for short?
