I love Camille and Sylvie. Also like Josephine, it's very versatile with lots of cute nn potential.

Jessieshome · 23/08/2024 14:01

Camilla - Bit uber posh
Camille - Pretty, I would attempt to pronounce it the French way with the double ll being a sort of y sound. Or are you thinking more like - 'Ka-mill'

Sylvie - very cute and pretty, I know a little girl called Sylvie and she is absolutely gorgeous in every way.

Josephine (Josie) - love how it sounds a flows of the tongue and Josie is cute.

Clara - really like this too, I loved it since watching Back to The Future III that had the character Clara Clayton.

Ada - Very old lady, but I understand it's fairly popular these days

Rose - Lovely, a very beautiful flower, if not the most beautiful flower.

Fia (Fiadh) - Fee-uh? Vee-uh? Feeve? I have no idea how this should be pronounced, I would have assumed Fee-uh but the version in brackets confuses me.

Lois - really lovely, if the English pronunciation, if in Wales it will probably be pronounced Loyce which I think is horrible. It's slightly unusual but also very familiar (Lois Lane, Superman).

Lovely choices, good luck!

Camilla
Camille
Really like these two.

Sylvie- not my personal taste

Josephine (Josie) - my favourite from you list. Love the nn potential, especially Josie.
Clara- really like.
Ada - dont like
Rose - i prefer this as a first name than a middle, really like but prefer Josephine
Fia (Fiadh)- don't like
Lois - it's ok but there's much nicer names

Josephine is my favourite by a long way.
Also like Clara, Camilla and Rose in that order of preference

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 23/08/2024 14:06

Camille is my favourite on your list

garlictwist · 23/08/2024 14:10

Really strongly dislike Sylvie. It's such an old lady name. Love Camilla (although arguably that is too...)

Mischance · 23/08/2024 14:10

They all look fine except Ada - I had an ancient grumpy auntie Ada!

Aglassaday · 23/08/2024 14:11

Camilla- gorgeous
Camille- prefer Camilla, feels like it has a kind of abrupt ending because Camilla is more heard of than Camille
Sylvie- love but wouldn’t use
Josephine (Josie)- i prefer just Josie i think Josephine is a bit soppy if you get me
Clara- absolutely love
Ada- adore this name
Rose- gorgeous
Fia (Fiadh) - love this one
Lois- beautiful though be prepared for it to be mispronounced ( I went to school with a Lois)

TulaTilda · 23/08/2024 14:12

Love love love Sylvie! Also like Clara and Ada although that's getting quite popular

DramaAlpaca · 23/08/2024 14:13

That's a nice list! I'm not that keen on Ada, it's a bit drab, but the rest are good.

I love Fia/Fiadh but it's probably the most popular name in Ireland at the moment. I wouldn't use it in the UK, I don't think.

Meadowwild · 23/08/2024 14:20

I love Sylvie and Clara. I prefer Rosa to Rose but Rose is okay.

Not keen on the others.

Bbq1 · 23/08/2024 14:28

I like Camille, Rose and Sylvie. I actually prefer Sylvia for the same reason I prefer Anne to Anna. More unusual. Sylvie and Annie can be nn's anyway. I don't like Josephine - still very old lady. Know an elderly Lois, nobody has struggled to pronounce her name!

Pyreneansylvie · 23/08/2024 14:37

Ummm, would it be mean of me to say that two of my dogs were called Sylvie & Rose...?

Guavafish1 · 23/08/2024 14:38

Sylvie is nice… very French and Emily in Paris!

Normallynumb · 23/08/2024 15:28

Camille is my favourite followed by Rose
Rosa perhaps?

shoopshoopdedoo · 23/08/2024 15:29

Love - Rose, Josephine

Like - Clara, Sylvie, Lois, Fiadh (if Irish connections)

Dislike - Ada, Camille, Camilla, Fia

ProvincialLady2024 · 23/08/2024 15:41

I like

Rose
Sylvie
Josephine
Clara

Raininginparadise2 · 23/08/2024 15:53

I prefer Lois, Rose, Ada and Clara from your list.

deliwoman1 · 23/08/2024 15:54

Prefer Camille to Camilla (I just think of Parker Bowles)

Sylvie is quite pretty!

Josephine is beautiful and my fave from your list, though I’d avoid Josie as a nn which is much less elegant imo.

I don’t love Clara but I’m not sure why. I think it could be lovely on the right child though.

Ada is lovely but super popular.

Rose is such a classic! I love it, and it usually gets relegated to middle name status these days.

Fia is nice but I think people will say Thea? Or Fear? Literally all the time. I guess it’s a matter of whether that will be annoying for your DD?

Lois will always make me think of Superman! It’s fine but I think other names are nicer.

Strong list though, OP! Nice job!

DinnaeFashYersel · 23/08/2024 15:57

Rose and Lois 👍

PearlClutzsche · 23/08/2024 16:00

Love Rose and Sylvie (or Sylvia). Josephine, Clara and Lois are also nice.

Only know Camille as a boys name!

RedOnyx · 23/08/2024 19:02

I love Josephine - possibly influenced by my childhood obsession with the Chalet School books. I'm not keen on Sylvie, Camilla or Camille.

Scirocco · 23/08/2024 19:51

I like Josephine and Fia best.

KirstenBlest · 23/08/2024 21:00

I only like Lois and Josephine

Prefer the Welsh or Spanish pronunciation of Lois , and Joss is nice as a diminutive of Josephine.

theduchessofspork · 23/08/2024 21:08

I love Lois

like Clara. Quite like Sylvie

Rose is lovely but way overdone. Camilla is nicer than Camille but she’ll likely be Milly which is overdone (how about Cassia?), I find Ada a bit harsh (but maybe Ida?), don’t like Josephine for some reason )but maybe Genevieve?). Fiadh sounds too much like fear so that’s the only one I really wouldn’t use - Fionn is lovely though.

Mumofgirls2017 · 23/08/2024 21:45

love Clara, sylvie, Ada, Josephine- that order
