So I decided very early on in my pregnancy that my son would be called Zachary. My husband was not crazy about the name initially but he's since grown to like it. I'm due any day now and I'm having a massive wobble!

Other names I really like are Jack and William. I love Alexander but we've got a close relative with the same name.

I think I generally like strong, traditional names and that's why I might not be completely in love with Zachary anymore? I feel like it might be just slightly to Americanised for me now. I still think it's beautiful, just not what I'm going for.

Any suggestions of strong, traditional boys names for me in the eleventh hour!?

I have a 19yo Zachary.

Other names I liked when he was born:
Alexander
Finlay
Dominic
Jacob
Isaac

You have 6 weeks to register once baby is here. Try Zachary for a bit and see how it feels and if it suits baby. Try other favourite names. I think the right name will stick and just feel like it belongs to him.

What about Zachariah or Zacharias? Maybe a bit more unusual?

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 20/08/2024 18:54

I love William, I always think that's such a lovely name. Would have used it if it wasn't taken in my family!

Arthur
Sebastian
Dylan
Theodore

Zachariah is a beautiful name.
OP - It is very normal to wobble, it's a weighty decision! Did you LOVE Zachary earlier in pregnancy? If so, I think you can trust that love and just call this cold feet.

AgathaSultana · 20/08/2024 19:11

If you love Alexander I would go for it to be honest!

I love Alexander the most. It’s my favourite boys name, along with James. I really like all your choices though, including Zachary.

Prriorayingly · 20/08/2024 19:45

I love both Jack and William.

quickturtle · 20/08/2024 19:46

See what he looks like when he's here

StormingNorman · 20/08/2024 19:49

Zachary/Zac always makes me think of Saved By The Bell and 90s movies when it was always the cool boy’s name.

I’d go with:
William Alexander
Jack Alexander

LizzeyBenett · 20/08/2024 19:50

When I was pregnant I was convinced I would have a boy and only had one name which was Jack I just think it is such a lovely little boys name ... I ended up having a little girl Smile but if I do go on to have a boy I think Jack would still be the name I would pick.

Me too! My absolute favourite is Alexander, followed by James!

Gahah · 20/08/2024 19:55

Thanks so much everyone. I definitely thought I loved Zachary very early on in pregnancy and we went with it. But when I think about it being his name now, I get a really strange, negative feeling, and have done for a while. This was not at all the way I felt about my first DC's name!

The names suggested are absolutely lovely - none are quite hitting the highs of Jack or William though.

I quite like Edward too, but DH isn't so keen.

DH has now decided he prefers Jack to Zachary, so there's that too! 😂

Agree with previous posters, see what he looks like. My friend has just had a baby and he was gonna be Stanley but she called him Clint, and it suits him.

Mykittensmittens · 20/08/2024 19:59

Jake/Jacob instead of Jack maybe?
Max instead of Alex if that’s already ‘used’?

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 20/08/2024 20:02

If you love Alexander go for it.

otherwise William and Jack are both nice. I like Zach but not so sure on Zachary.

BehindTheSequinsandStilettos · 20/08/2024 20:08

I prefer Jack. I'd go with that.
Zachary less keen although Zak on its own is very popular.
I'd be choosing Xavier if I wanted a Z sound (but I like the French pronunciation and not sure how people would say it here)

Jack Joshua JJ would be a guilty pleasure nn
Jack Caleb JC maybe not

HyggeTygge · 20/08/2024 20:17

Best of both worlds with Jackary? Grin

Jack is nice and classic.

Normally I would say wobbles are normal and stick with your original choice but it sounds to me like you kind of railroaded your DH into it a bit. Maybe that's behind your wobble, knowing that deep down he's not truly in love with Zachary?

Jack sounds like the perfect compromise in this case, something you both love.

Personally I much prefer Jack to Zachary anyway, especially if you're looking for a strong name. Zachary does have quite a soft sound. Isaac is much stronger. That's by the by though, go for Jack!

It's perfect. Jack-Gary.

VenusClapTrap · 21/08/2024 12:16

Jack is a great name.

SuziQuinto · 21/08/2024 12:22

Not Jack or William.
They're very over used. Every third boy I teach is called Jack.
Zachary is a bit more interesting and unusual.
How about Jacob, Nathan or Caleb?.

Holidayhell22 · 21/08/2024 12:23

You can’t really go wrong with Jack.
If your dh isn’t keen on Zachary then I would go with Jack.
