Brother is Noah.
Boys name will either be Hugo Jacob or Jacob (undecided on middle name).

Struggling with girls names. Which do you prefer with siblings and why? Please be honest, I'd rather know now than when baby is here.

Arabella - Seen a baby named this recently and can't stop thinking about it, just don't like shortened versions Belle or Bella.

Matilda -
Juliet - Always loved
Violet - Inspired by Violet Jessop
Sofia -

Thank you.

I like Violet, Matilda and Juliet. Arabella is pretty, but not my favourite. What about Ariadne or Adriana/Adrianna/Adrienne.
I'm not fan of Sofia, but like Sophie.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 17/08/2024 10:22

First golden rule of names is if you don’t like any of the potential nick names then don’t use it which obviously rules Arabella out.

I can’t really say much about Juliet or Matilda aside from Theyre okay names but a bit posh for me. However I think you should go with Juliet as that seems to be the one you’re most drawn to.

I love Sofia and Violet beautiful names. My imaginary twin girls are called Violet Sofia.& Summer Willow. 🤣.

shoopshoopdedoo · 17/08/2024 10:41

Juliet is my favourite by far! It’s beautiful. I like Matilda and Sofia (prefer Sophie) too. Not hugely keen on Violet and I really don’t like Arabella - it is just too princessy for me!

Nicebloomers · 17/08/2024 10:47

Juliette nn Ettie is lovely. Matilda also nice.Arabella is quite frilly and I would avoid if you dislike the shortening/s. Sofia/ Sophia/ Sophie are a bit overused imo. Noah and Sophie go together well though.

theduchessofspork · 17/08/2024 11:19

I like Arabella but don’t do it if you don’t like Bella

I’d go for Juliet - lovely and getting popular but not overused..

Also like Violet

Matilda and Sofia/Sophia very overdone. Sophie less so.

sel2223 · 17/08/2024 11:26

Not a fan of Arabella.....just too frilly and trendy for my.
I like all your other girls names

Firsttimebabymummy · 17/08/2024 11:30

My honest opinions

Arabella - i dont like this name. I find it too frilly. Three of my friends / friends of friends have had little girls called this recently and all go by Bella which i dont like either..

Matilda - It ok but i think becoming too popular for my taste

Juliet - Always loved this name! Very pretty

Violet - as above, love this name and was on my list. Quite like Violetta too. Nn ettie, violet etc

Sofia - i like this, but prefer the previous two names.

HettyCletter · 17/08/2024 11:30

I like Juliet (though prefer Julia if that could be an option?)

Sophia/Sofia and Matilda are very popular round here, as is anything that shortens to Bella.

I’m not a fan of the sound of Violet, it sounds too much like violent/violate to my ears!

user1492757084 · 17/08/2024 11:47

Noah and Hugo Jacob is the best.

or ..
Jacob Timothy
Jacob Alexander

Matilda Juliet
Sophie Arabella
Juliet Phoebe
Phoebe Matilda
Grace Julia

AdaColeman · 17/08/2024 11:48

They are all lovely names, but...
Sofia has been in the top ten names for years, so there are already thousands of Sofias.
Arabella will inevitably get Bella etc for a nn, recently Belle etc was very popular so there will be a lot with that name.
Matilda is having a surge in popularity lately, so might date quickly. Have you considered Maud as an alternative?

Juliet and Violet are my favourites from your list.

Olivia2109 · 17/08/2024 12:00

I love Juliet! It sounds really timeless but a beautiful name. Arabella sounds lovely too but for me personally just sounds slightly too princessy. Also if you don’t like Bella as a nickname I wouldn’t go for it either. Also love the spelling Juliette!

FayCarew · 17/08/2024 15:35

Arabella - will be Bella or Ella
Fine: Matilda, Juliet, Violet
Sofia - Sophia and Sofia both too popular

Moreteaandchocolate · 17/08/2024 18:05

Arabella - how about Annabella? That way you’ve got the option of Annie / Anna instead of Belle / Bella if she wants to shorten her name?

Matilda - do you like Tilly? Nice if you do.

Juliet - lovely classic and love Jules / Ettie - choose this if it’s your favourite!

Violet - my favourite of your ideas - it’s got the vintage cool vibes I love.

Sofia - beautiful and goes well with Noah, assuming you don’t mind it’s popularity?

FayCarew · 17/08/2024 19:56

The names are all a bit long, so are likely to be shortened.
Annabella is awful - too long and frilly. Anna is quite enough.

BeaLola · 17/08/2024 20:35

From your list I like Violet

I also like to go with Noah , Verity, Nina, Grace, Ella, Vivienne, Serena

Mumofgirls2017 · 17/08/2024 23:19

Matilda or Juliet 😍

otravezempezamos · 17/08/2024 23:23

Both Hugo and Jacob are fab names. As for the girl names…
Arabella - pretentious and would end up being shortened
Matilda - Tilly makes my teeth hurt as a nicknames unless it’s a Golden Retriever
Juliet - Beautiful. Julia is also lovely
Violet - Lovely
Sofia - bit common but nice

Heavenlyhoumous · 18/08/2024 00:14

I think Juliet is a beautiful classic and my favourite on your list, love Jules and Ettie too. Violet is too similar to violent to me. I can never imagine Matilda on an adult but probably just have never met one. Arabella lovely but will be shortened.

17caterpillars1mouse · 18/08/2024 22:19

Go with Juliet, you've always loved it

RogueFemale · 19/08/2024 00:37

Venetia or Sibylla

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 19/08/2024 02:52

Juliet. Never understood why there aren’t more Juliet’s - romantic, elegant, timeless and with a variety of different style nn’s if she wants (Jules, Letty, Jet), although the couple I’ve met personally have usually gone by their full name.

I don’t hate your other choices but they are all a bit trendy in comparison. Sofia is lovely - but it will be “Sofia with an F” for all her life as Sophia just as popular. Violet is a bit retro and harsh sounding for my taste and Arabella is a no go if you don’t like Belle/Bella, it’s very likely to be shortened. I guess my second choice would be Matilda.

Noah and Rose/Rosa? (if you like Violet’s floral style), Noah and Charlotte? (more popular/classic “t” ending name than Juliet and Violet).

myladyjane · 19/08/2024 03:02

Love Juliet and Violet.

I know a lot of Sofia/Sophie and Matilda/Tillys

Arabella is pretty but easily confused and will be shortened.

Can I throw in a Flora? Or a Clara.

EveryDayFruity · 19/08/2024 04:07

Julia.

RedOnyx · 19/08/2024 08:50

Matilda and Violet are my favourites.

How about Ariella? Similar to Arabella but removes the potential for Bella/Belle shortening.

Sleepnplay · 19/08/2024 11:06

I love Matilda and Juliet, beautiful names imo.

I'm not keen on Tilly as a shortening but love Tilda. I really like Jules and Ettie for Juliet, so would probably go with that.

I'm another one who prefers Sophie to Sofia.
