Freya - overused
Enid - original Welsh pronunciation is lovely
Delilah - why, why, why
Esme - ok
Faye - Fay is nice
Millie/Milly - ok if short for something
Enola - no way
Riley - dreadful

BoleynMemories13 · 14/08/2024 21:15

Freya is my favourite. Faye is ok, if not a little bland, and Millie is nice as a nickname but I'm not keen as a stand alone name.

Esme isn't for me. It has pronunciations issues and seems to be one of those names that so many are using right now, all thinking they're being 'different'.

With Delilah I always think of a quote from Friends, when Ross and Rachel are considering Delilah for their baby and Rachel says "oh great, she sounds like a biblical whore'. It's a big no from me! Lila is lovely though.

Riley for a girl is such an American trend. I automatically think boy when I hear Riley, and even then I don't like it.

Enid and Enola are awful.

Definitely Freya for me, out of that list.

Delilah

I would use Riley but for a boy.

Faye is my favourite - not that common these days. Esme is Ok.

I really don't like the others at all. Enola will forever be associated with Enola Gay, so please don't.

• Enid
• Delilah
• Esme
• Faye
• Millie/Milly
• Enola
• Riley

NewName24 · 14/08/2024 23:49
  • Freya - nothing wrong with it, I just don't like it Blush
  • Enid - has become v popular lately. I am old enough to have had great Aunts with this name so my gut is saying it is old fashioned, which fits right in with the fact it is so popular now
  • Delilah - No. Connotations to do with it rule it out
  • Esme - It's okay, but often said on here about different pornounciations putting people off
  • Faye - Is nice, but I prefer Fay
  • Millie/Milly - is nice, although does sound like a shortening
  • Enola - no. The atomic bomb link isn't a great one.
  • Riley - No for me. Sounds like a surname.
Tintinuviel · 14/08/2024 23:49

Freya, Esme and Millie are my favourites from your list.

SabbatWheel · 14/08/2024 23:52

Enid, Welsh pronunciation would be lovely.

WinterAconite · 14/08/2024 23:55

I like Fay and Milly

  • Freya - bit wishy washy. It's fine but I wouldn't choose it.
  • Enid - too 'old-lady-but-not-old-lady-chic' for me. It's ok though.
  • Delilah - not particularly my taste but nothing wrong with it.
  • Esme - like it
  • Faye - quite like it
  • Millie/Milly - I'd prefer it as a nickname for Millicent, Amelie or Amelia.
  • Enola - My first thought is Enola Holmes which is a much more positive association than the bomb. And I think that's what her peers will relate it too. I quite like it.
  • Riley - very American but nice enough.

I'd choose Esme from your list.

Esme is by far my favourite of these. Also like Freya a lot but it is very popular lately which makes me wonder if it will, in the future, be tied in people's heads to a particular time. Delilah is nice too.

BehindTheSequinsandStilettos · 15/08/2024 02:31

Freya Esme

SossijRoll · 15/08/2024 09:26

Freya and Millie are overused to the point of being dull. Milly is quite bland and there are lots of them as a lot of Amelia’s are also Millie’s. Esme is also becoming overused.

Enola isn’t great and isn’t it ‘alone’ backwards??

Delilah is nice.

Pemba · 15/08/2024 09:54

I do like Delilah, just the sound of it is lovely. I know a lot of people think of it as a bit over the top though.
I quite like Freya.

My least favourite of your names is Riley, it's a surname a boy's name, and a 'naughty boy' name too, according to teachers. It's very unattractive.

Enola, it's a shame because it could have been a lovely name, but it will forever be associated with 'Enola Gay', the plane that dropped the atom bomb on Hiroshima. The pilot named the plane after his mother apparently, I wonder what she thought about it. Horrible. Then Enola also sounds quite a lot like Ebola! Another truly terrible association. Best avoided I would say.

Hannahspeltbackwards · 15/08/2024 11:49

Freya - One of my favourites.

Enid - Not to my taste, but might grow on me if I heard it often enough.

Delilah - Love this.

Esme - I quite like.

Faye - This is nice. I don't think I've ever met one personally.

Millie/ Milly - I've always liked this, but know quite a few of various ages.

Enola - I've never heard before.

Riley - I prefer it for a boy.

Other ideas

Eliza
Tabitha
Matilda
Faya
Emilia
