Gulliver.

The actors Helen M'Crory and Damian Lewis have chosen this name for their second child.

Hmm, I always think what it will be shortened to - Gully

cornsilk · 15/04/2008 17:47

That's cool for an actor's child at private school. Not so for a civilian.

Pinkchampagne · 15/04/2008 17:48

One of the girls my sister worked with, had a Gulliver.

CrackerOfNuts · 15/04/2008 17:48

Gullivers Kingdom

cornsilk · 15/04/2008 17:49

Gulv
Liver
Guppy
Livvi
Other possible nicknames. Lots of potential.

MinkyBorage · 15/04/2008 17:50

MrsClinton · 15/04/2008 17:50

ikebod

MrsClinton · 15/04/2008 17:50

i like columbus

Flier · 15/04/2008 17:50

there was a film called Fern Gully, wasn't there? yes, loads of possibilities for nicknames

Janni · 15/04/2008 17:52

There's nothing inherently wrong with the name, it's just that the only Gulliver most people will ever have heard of will be the one who went to Lilliput. He'll be forever getting ribbed about that, won't he?

OP posts:
JRocks · 15/04/2008 17:52

I've never met one.. each to their own I suppose

cornsilk · 15/04/2008 17:53

Gulls liver
Lillets
I could just go on and on.

JRocks · 15/04/2008 17:53

I didn't mean this thread

Saturn74 · 15/04/2008 17:53

"I've got a pain in my gulliver".
Words immortalised by Bart Simpson in cockney street urchin guise.

Janni · 15/04/2008 17:54

(Hi JRocks - I know. Revive it if you like!)

Thought about Inoni after watching University Challenge last night - pretty name for a little girl!

a lovely name for a pet. but a baby?

still, it's got to be better than bluebell madonna!

PortAndLemon · 15/04/2008 18:49

This is the second child who is currently six months old, right? Just the way you phrase the OP makes it aound like she's currently pregnant or just had the baby.

Damien Lewis is an Old Etonian with the middle name of Watcyn; I suspect he moves in the sort of circles where one can carry off a name like Gulliver with aplomb .

It's quite nice, actually, although I wouldn't do it myself (keep thinking of Tiger Tiger aka The Stars My Destination).

MadameCh0let · 15/04/2008 18:51

Ah yes, Watcyn Lewis (Damien's Dad) was my old boss! Charming ol' guy. I think he forgot he was 70 odd on occassion!

I like Gulliver a lot. It's Manon I'm not at all keen on.

MadameCh0let · 15/04/2008 18:53

OT a little, but doesn't Helen McCrory look like a posh version of Martine McCutcheon.

josta · 15/04/2008 19:13

I've always liked it.

Janni · 15/04/2008 19:41

Yes, not a newborn. Their first child (daughter)is called Manon

OP posts:
branflake81 · 15/04/2008 19:43

yes but in Gulliver's travels, Gulliver was his surname

Janni · 15/04/2008 19:46

You're right, branflake, I'd forgotten that It's coming back to me now - his first name was Lemuel, I think.
