I really like all of them, so it was a tough choice! I went for Lyra because it’s familiar but not overused, and I love short, simple names that don’t tend to get shortened. I also love the long “i” sound in names!

UltramarineViolet · 31/07/2024 22:58

Hard decision but I voted for Penelope

I think Sophie and Charlotte are both lovely names but both have been popular for the past 30+ years so there are a lot of them about. There are a lot fewer Penelopes around and I like the fact it can be shortened to Penny.

I don't dislike Lyra but nor do I love it. It still feels a bit faddy and could date badly.

cupcaske123 · 31/07/2024 23:00

Don't like Lyra. Voted for Penelope.

MulberryMoon · 31/07/2024 23:00

I voted for Lyra. It's cooler than the others.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 01/08/2024 00:41

I like a classic - so it’s between Charlotte and Sophie for me. Penelope and Lyra have risen more sharply in popularity recently and therefore might date more, whereas I know Charlottes and Sophie’s of most age groups. Plus I’m not quite as keen on the strong “pee” sound in Penelope and the “lie” sound in Lyra.

I voted for Charlotte in the end as it stands out a bit more than Sophie - as there are a lot of Sophia/Sofia’s about at the moment too. There’s also more nn choice with Charlotte if she wants one and it just feels that touch more traditional/historical than Sophie for some reason - maybe as it makes think of Queen Charlotte and the 19th Century writers Charlotte Brontë and Charlotte Perkins Gilman.

Charlotte! A timeless classic and I adore the nickname Lottie

Barleysugar86 · 01/08/2024 00:58

Not Lyra- it's having a bit of a moment, we have two in our baby class- it's the only duplicate name!

The other three are lovely, but I especially feel drawn to Penelope. Sophie might get lost in the sea of Sophia's.

Lyra, Sophie, Charlotte and Penelope

Liv999 · 01/08/2024 09:28

Charlotte for me it's a classic

shoopshoopdedoo · 01/08/2024 09:34

Like them all, especially Sophie and Penelope. Voted for Penelope.

KirstenBlest · 01/08/2024 10:22

4 Lyra - I don't like it at all.
1 Sophie - love it and would have used it but a cousin already had a DD called Sophie. Wouldn't use it noe because Sophia is overused.
2 Charlotte - classic, but popular. If it's good enough for Wills & Kate ...
3 Penelope - too long, but I know a few lovely Pennys

BoleynMemories13 · 01/08/2024 10:38

Lyra has absolutely rocketed in popularity in recent years, which means it risks becoming faddy and dated to this era. If you meet a Lyra right now, there's a 99.9% chance she'll be under 5.

Penelope isn't for me, and is also on quite a sharp rise itself.

I prefer a classic name, so that leaves Sophie and Charlotte. If you see these names written down, you'd genuinely have no idea how old they are as they have stood the test of time.

I voted for Charlotte.

Floralnomad · 01/08/2024 10:41

I voted Charlotte , I like them all except Lyra .

This. It also blends in with similar names like Lila, Lyla, Lara, Lola, Luna etc.

Laura is far classier.

Itneverrainsinsocal · 01/08/2024 11:53

They are all perfectly nice.. but I went for Charlotte, so classic!
Sophie is so pretty too.
Lyra sounds too "mystical" to me
I have never been able to read Penelope the right way.. my brain just rhymes it with Antelope (sorry lol)

Onelittlebluefish · 01/08/2024 19:42

I voted for Charlotte, and love the nn Lottie. I like Sophie too, but personally Sofia.

Love Penelope nn Penny, but have decided to use that for my next puppy!

Not keen on Lyra - makes me think of ‘liar’.

NewName24 · 01/08/2024 20:10

I don't like Lyra. I see 'lycra'.

I like Sophie and Charlotte, but as has been said, there are lots and lots of them, so I've voted for Penelope. I think it is less popular, but still a 'known' name. Penny is nice.

RubyBirdy · 01/08/2024 22:06

Penelope because I LOVE the nn Penny.

Hannahspeltbackwards · 02/08/2024 08:50

I voted Penelope. I like the "nell" sound, and prefer the Nell/ Nelly shortening to Penny.

I like Sophie and Charlotte, but just know way too many of all ages.

Lyra just isn't to my personal taste.

SkaneTos · 02/08/2024 19:30

They are all good names!

I voted for Lyra, because it has a cool meaning in my native language!

miniaturepixieonacid · 03/08/2024 01:50

Charlotte. Beautiful name, timeless (I know Charlottes between 0 and 70) and it seems like every Charlotte I've met is such a lovely person. I'm not keen on Charlie and Lottie but they're not awful and they're not compulsory. Plenty stick with the full name.

I also really like Lyra and Sophie though.

I'm less keen on Penelope but don't dislike it by any means.

Don't think you can go wrong really - great choices!
